My CD ROM will not play cd's. I cannot find a liosting for CD ROM in Device Manager. I recently installed a power supply fan. My computer is an e machines. Has the driver for CD ROM been removed? There are no loose connections that I can see.

Go back inside and make sure you did not bump any cables to the MB or the drive by gently reseating them. If the drivers were deleted some how, Windows would just reload them on next boot up. If you have a floppy boot disk, try booting up in dos and see if the CD rom works that way.

Check the audio cabel to ensure it is connected correctly that goes between the CD-ROM to the sound card. The plug may be connected in reverse or a pin was missed.

Good luck and Merry Christmas. Dan-O

Thank You guys for your advice, but I guess I am just computer illiterate. I have gotten CD ROM to show up in device manager, but now there is a yellow exclamation point beside it. I have also since found that I cannot access my floppy disc drive. I tried to move a file to floppy but got an error reading no disc in drive. I cannot see any loose connections. Tech Support once told me how to restore memory to my system. Like going back in time to before the errors occurred but I do not remember how to do that either. I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and thanks again. Robert

Does that mean you have given up?

If not, try putting a floppy in the drive and powering up. Does it try to boot from this disk? If not, there is something wrong in the wiring (well, I'm guessing its the wiring since you were in there for the fan) as Windows and Device Manager have nothing to do with being able to boot from a floppy.
