DOS 6.22; Win 3.1
HD Controller Failure is the message on boot-up.
The controller board is good (works fine in another Computer). CMOS entry is correct. Board is clean and fully inserted.
What else might be wrong?
Thanks

What kind of system are you installing in?
What kind of hard drive is it?
Can you boot to a floppy disk and then access the hard drive from there? If so, run fdisk from a bootable floppy and check the partition info for the disk.

That kind of error message could also mean that you have the jumpers on the hard drive wrong.

ETS & Larry
Larry I think you gave me the clue to the problem. Prior owner had two hard drives. He removed one & gave the computer to me. I believe the current HD was set as "D".
I will have to check the jumpers. That's probably the problem. Compute is 386 "DX" (INTEL uproc). Drive is WD Caviar 2120, BIOS IS AMI 386. Will post results when I get time to check the jumpers. Thanks to both

HD Controller Failure
It could also mean that your hard drive is on it's way out or is already hosed!...Sorry to be so graphic, It doesn't have anything really to do with the controller on the motherboard...it's the controller within the hard drive itself.

Larry & ETS,
HD problem is rewsolved, I an chagrined! The jumpers were set for slave drive. Everything is now fine. Guess I'm used to thinking in terms of floppy drivwes and twisted cables.
Thanks to both of you for the help!
