My wife has a G3 with 192 MB of RAM and is running 8.6. She has had this up and running for about a year (time goes by so fast).

Within just the last week, at startup, she loads Excel, Word and several other (smaller) items (Phone Pad, RPN Calculator, AOL, etc.). When she attempts to use Word an error "System memory too low to run word. Try reducing Word's memory size."

I have Word set for 8000K; when I click OK (Quit) About This Computer shows about 90 MB (largest block) available. When I double-click a Word document, it now opens OK.

I have tried rebuilding DT with Tech Tool.

At this point I'm at a loss; I don't look forward to reinstalling System files, if that's an alternative.

Thanks,

PKF

This is a shot in the dark here but it sounds like a RAM chip may have gone bad. It sounds like it's not recognizing all the RAM anymore.

Check your RAM in the chooser.
If thats Okay check the Memory for the finder itself.

Word and Excel are Memory Pigs!!!!

My G4 has a half a Gb of RAM and I still have memory problems.

Thanks for the replies!! I had forgotten my post becasue I played around with several ideas; the one that worked was when I changed the order of when I had Word open (to last), and I have not had any problems since that change.
