I know, I know.
I'm positive you guys don't mess with iPods here, but I felt like posing the question to you at least for now while I'm at work before I go home and look for iPod forums that might help me further.

I think this is an issue with my harddrive, but I googled it once and found nothing regarding it.

So, my music'll play sometimes, right? Some tracks take eons to load, and then they'll skip in the middle, and then the track will proceed while I get no sound.

Suggestions on how to at least troubleshoot this?

Thanks.

I just tried a particular track on both the ipod player that I have installed on the iPod itself and (sigh, unfortunately) iTunes. Both times, just like when I'm playing it from the iPod itself, the track will start, the whole system will lag for what feels like eons, and then the next track will start.

:c

Hello. I'll try to help . . .

I assume you use Windows.

What version of iTunes are you using, and what type of iPod?

How long have you had the iPod (is it still under warranty)?

How long has this problem been occurring?

Are these tracks that you purchased through iTunes? If not - where did you import them from?

Thanks for helping.

I do use Windows (2000). I have the latest iTunes, and a 3rd generation iPod with, apparently, updated firmware.

It probably isn't under warranty since I fixed the battery myself.

It actually was a hand-me-down from a friend, he complained about the same thing, but I had forgotten it until it started happening to me.

The tracks are not purchased through iTunes, and I actually forget where I've gotten them. They work perfectly when being played from my computer's harddrive.

Are you running, jumping, ect. when you play the music? The hard drive could be scratched or the songs could have gotton corruped on the iPod when you were adding/deleting songs (synching with iTunes).

Have you tried resetting the iPod?

Are the songs affected from a specific CD?

When you imported the songs, did you use the AAC encoding? This compression is considered best to avoid skipping.

Interesting. I'm thinking about converting all my music to AAC, then, and reformatting. The harddrive's really loud, I think, when it's working. I don't mind that, I just hope that doesn't mean it's malfunctioning. :/

Ferrija, I'm not generally. In fact, I will be perfectly still sometimes, staring at it. And it's not quite that it skips. It skips, and then cuts out. So the song will play for, example, its 2:30 minutes, but from 0:10 minutes on, it's complete silence.

I don't think there's a pattern to which songs get effected, because some songs I listen to often still work, others don't. Some I've never touched don't work, too.

You should notice a difference with the AAC encoding. GOOD LUCK!

But then what about playability on other things? Like, does winamp support AAC files? (I couldn't give a crap about iTunes, I use so many other programs for things like synchronisation and stuff).

Any suggestions on free conversion programs? =D

I think Wimamp does, at least w/ a plug-in/add-on. Also did you try the 5 R's

iPod Issues?
These five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.

* 1. Reset your iPod.
* 2. Retry with a different USB port.
* 3. Restart your computer.
* 4. Reinstall iPod and iTunes software.
* 5. Restore your iPod.

well, the issue is with the ipod itself, as opposed to how it connects with the computer. But I did restart it multiple times, and I'm about to restore it.

Ok, try restoring before you re-format all your music.
