Net Send - Sent to Wrong Location
We have a applicaiton that sends out a net send message whenever a user does something incorrectly. Today, something strange happened... The application sent the net send message as normal, however, instead of going to the target individual, it went to another user. The application log states it was sent to the correct user. My question is, what are the chances/what would cause a net send to go to the wrong address. Is this even possible?

Also, these were sent to domain accounts.

Thanks!

Is it sent via IP address or Name? If you are on a network running DHCP and sent the message to an IP address it may well have gone to the wrong user.

DHCP
Short for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, a protocol for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on a network. With dynamic addressing, a device can have a different IP address every time it connects to the network. In some systems, the device's IP address can even change while it is still connected. DHCP also supports a mix of static and dynamic IP addresses.
Dynamic addressing simplifies network administration because the software keeps track of IP addresses rather than requiring an administrator to manage the task. This means that a new computer can be added to a network without the hassle of manually assigning it a unique IP address. Many ISPs use dynamic IP addressing for dial-up users.

Obviously you know what DHCP means but I was not so certain that nsandestin does...and since I had to look it up for myself... I just thought I'd pass it on... I was not trying to be smart or sarcastic... just trying to help... and learn...

Exclamation No Such Luck
I wish that was the case...that would make things easy. While we are using DHCP, the net send was sent to a domain account not to an IP address...
