XCOPY with premissions
Below is a BAT file I use to launch an MSAccess application I have. I use the batch file because I want to distribute updates to the application automatically.

Code:
Rem Check for local directory
if not exist C:\CM\CMApp.mde mkdir "C:\CM"

Rem updates local app
if not exist C:\CM\CMApp.ldb xcopy "\\Xserve.local\general1\CM\Install\CMApp.mde" "C:\CM\" /d:06-15-2006

Rem Launch application
rem if not exist "C:\CM\CMApp.ldb" "C:\CM\CMApp.mde"
Can I make the directory and application have the same security permissions as the source file?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your help.

However I think this will not work for what I am trying to achieve. The BAT file will be run by end users who will not have administrator permissions - can we get around this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Alternatively, am I going about this entirely the wrong way?

I want to distribute updates to the application to many computers, it seems to me the best way to do this is with a BAT file which the user will use to launching the app. Is there a better way?

The directory and app must have full permissions for all users when installed.

You will need to use an encrypted Runas program if they need elevated privleges. There are plenty of them out there. Some are free, some are not.

Why not make a startup script that then distributes it when you need to send an update. you can leave the script blank on the days it doesn't need an update and just copy in paste in the line (this is assuming your running in a domain).
