Reboot or select proper boot device
About a month ago I took my computer to a “mom & pop” computer store (Which has since gone out of business) because it wouldn’t boot. They replaced the IDE cable and memory card. In addition they did something so that when you boot it after it finishes POST it displays message saying press f2 to setup Bios or f12 to boot from network
Then it checks A drive for a floppy then it would check CD-ROM (Actually a DVD drive) For the window’s CD. If it found it it would display a menu giving you the option of booting from CD-ROM or hard drive. Otherwise it would boot from hard drive
My C drive just got fried. So I removed the old C drive and replaced it with one I had as a backup. I partitioned the new drive and formatted it (When I did this I unplugged D drive as a guard against messing up my backups.)
So I reinstalled Windows 98SE (every thing went fine) then plugged D drive back and rebooted to restore from a backup I had done the night before and stored on my D drive. When it got past the first screen where it would normally ask if it should boot from hard drive or CD (with windows CD in) it came up with the message
“Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device”
I can boot from either IDE connector connected to C drive.
I also get the same message if I try and boot just with C and no Windows CD in the CD-ROM drive
I can go in under DOS and look and D drive when booting from Floppy
But I can’t get system to boot with C & D drive.
How do I fix it so it will recognize the new C drive and the existing D drive?
Or get rid of this feature all together
