I would like to do the following sequentially
I anwered many questions in the Windows 2000/XP section of this site and find myself asking one.

Using XP Pro SP2
Vista Ultimate
I have several batch files that I created for file comparison and backup daily but never have done anything with exe files.
I would like to do the following sequentially: Disk defragmentation, sfc, and several exe files one after the other. Has anyone done one similar to this that they may have a sample of batch file that they would like to share.

Well this is pretty straight forward -

Start /wait c:\file switches

E.G.
Start /wait c:\windows\system32\sfc /scan now
Start /wait C:\windows\system32\defrag c /f
and so on.

Thank You StumpedTechy

I have one other one for you. I am using FirefoxPortable.exe on a small Flash Drive that will bring up an Index of information on my Grand Children. Stuff such as Phone numbers, Medical Stats, etc. I just give them to my daughters and when they have the kids out they just hand the drive around there neck and God forbid should they ever get lost, hurt , the info on the Flash drive will make calling Mom alot easier.

Right now I am using an ini file with the following:

[autorun]
shellexecute=FirefoxPortable\FirefoxPortable.exe /minimize /path:index.htm /symbol:Z /RD
icon = FirefoxPortable.exe
action = PLEASE CLICK ON THE OK BUTTON
action = BELOW FOR INFORMATION ABOUT ME!
useautoplay=1

Using this brings up a window that you have to Click OK on. I want to get rid of this step. Can I use the ini file above to start a batch file that when the flash drive is plugged in opening FirefoxPortable.exe
Something similar to your example:

Start /wait c:\file switches

Start /wait c:\windows\system32\sfc /scan now
Start /wait C:\windows\system32\defrag c /f
and so on.

Thanks

Gary

Sorry i am not familiar with FireFox as I personally can't stand using it. hopefully someone can help you figure out that portion of it.

Also another question don't you have to click okay anways to then run the batch file?

In vista, microsoft decided to have autoruns disabled by default (i think). either that, or you have the option to disable it and it has been.

unless this is something generated by firefox? maybe explain your problem more

Tried to re-write to make the question easier to understand.

I have one other one for you. I am using FirefoxPortable.exe on a small Flash Drive that will bring up an Index of information on my Grand Children. Stuff such as Phone numbers, Medical Stats, etc. I just give them to my daughters and when they have the kids out they just hang the drive around there neck and God forbid should they ever get lost, hurt , the info on the Flash drive will make calling Mom allot easier.

Right now I am using an ini file with the following but would like to switch to a batch file that will auto start when the Flash Drive is inserted:

[autorun]
shellexecute=FirefoxPortable\FirefoxPortable.exe /minimize /path:index.htm /symbol:Z /RD
icon = FirefoxPortable.exe
action = PLEASE CLICK ON THE OK BUTTON
action = BELOW FOR INFORMATION ABOUT ME!
useautoplay=1

Using this brings up a window that you have to Click OK on. I want to get rid of this step. Can I use the ini file above to start a batch file?
Something similar to your example that opens FirefoxPortable.exe:

Start /wait c:\file switches

These are just examples!
Start /wait c:\windows\system32\sfc /scan now
Start /wait C:\windows\system32\defrag c /f
and so on.

Thanks
