My harddrive is partitioned into 3 sections. When I intall ME it insists on putting it on the D: drive. There are no options for me, it is a simple ghosting install program. Well, I want it on C: drive. So, how can I copy the entire D: drive onto the C: drive using the DOS interface? I know tried "copy D:*.* C:*.*", but that only copys the files. How do I make an exact mirror of all the folders and the files in the folders, too?

ok, I've tried the XCOPY command, but it comes back with Bad Command. I've tried the MOVE command, but the same thing, Bad Command. The only copying command I have gotten to work is COPY. Am I doomed to have to copy the drive one directory at a time? Why isn't it recognizing these commands. I have tried using both an ME and 98 boot disk. I don't have the operating system itself up and running yet, because it insists on intalling it onto the extended partition

Oh, How can I copy this drive?

Hi Beffan,

If you have no OS on the computer, XCOPY.EXE
(or XCOPY32.EXE) will have to be on your boot
disk. The COPY command is in DOS itself, the
others are external files.

Use the following command to copy the D
drive to the empty C drive (use XCOPY32
if that's what you have):

XCOPY /H /E D:\*.* C:

The "/H" gets hidden and system files.
The "/E" maintains the directory structure,
and even copies empty directories.

Thanks for the feedback I guess I don't have that command on my boot disk ...weird, I thought it should be there...and since I didn't have the Operating system installed, I decided to approach my debacle from a different angle. I put the O/S on the whole drive (one partition) and used Partition Magic to chope it up after the fact. So far, it is work ing well....(formatting third partition now )
