Can't get hot synced
I have a Sony Clie PEG sjnn u that has only been hot sync 'd once. I have heard from other users that Palm PDAs are practically impossible to get going. Is there anyone out there with a similar pda that has some fool proof suggestions? I have reset, hard reset only to get to error messages., messages that say that the connection cannot be established between the computer and the pda. These things are more complicated than my desktop.

I never had any problems syncing my Handspring when I used it. I synced with the Palm Desktop software, and it almost always worked just fine.

Is it connected through USB?
what software are you syncing with?
Did you do a soft / hard reset?
What exactly happens when you connect the PDA to the computer? What error messages are displayed? And what programs are erroring out? Hotsync? Outlook? Palm Desktop or other PIM software?

I had a similar problem with my Palm Tungsten T3 once, which also uses the Palm OS.
The problem is most likely with the computer and not the Clie. I fixed it by uninstalling all the palm desktop software and deleting the palm device in the device manager (if it shows up in there). Then make sure all the Palm program file folders are deleted from out of the Program Files folder. Then restart the computer and download and install the newest versions of software from Sony. If they only supply a device driver then get the Palm Desktop software from http://www.palm.com/us/software/palmsoftware.html

Hope this helps.

Can't get hot synced
Buzzrexx,
Thanks for the tip. I removed the original driver and downloaded the one from Palm.
This seems to be the same problem as the original driver. I can hot sync as long as it is hooked to the USB. Once it is removed and loose connection. Then when I try to connected again I get the message that the connection between the desktop and the PDA could not be established.

If I understand correctly, the hotsync operation comlpeted properly until the PDA was removed from the connection (i.e. taking it with to work) and then upon returning it to the cradle/USB connection for a new hotsync it will sit and wait and wait and then finally come up and say "connection could not be established", etc.

I would check first by right-clicking on the Hotsync Manager tray icon on the right of the taskbar and make sure that the USB option is checked (it should be near the top.)

If you don't see the Hotsync Manager icon then it needs to be started manually. there should be a shortcut in the Palm Desktop menu on the All Programs section of the Start menu.

If Hotsync Manager is not loading automatically, you might need to manually put a shortcut into the Start Menu's startup folder.

Check these and see how it goes. It sounds like it's not so much the hotsync operation but getting windows to recognize your device.

Hooray! I finally got the thing to work. I found a forum with the same problem I had. I followed that and updated a few drivers. I have a new problem now that the other one is taken care of
I took some photos with my little point and shoot camera. Some how, the photos ended up in a folder. I created a folder without knowing it. I can't retrieve the individual pictures because they are in a stupid folder. I tried to review these photos ( Kodak Shareware) and all I get is a box with a red x and message saying that the photos are in a folder and can be only retrieved from the folder. I wan't to delete the folder and return the photos to the collection, the same way they were before these folders were made.
Anyone? Lisa

Please specify if this problem with retrieving your pictures is in viewing them on the PDA or in trying to get them into your desired pictures folder in Windows.
If they are ending up in a wrong folder on the PDA, download a 3rd party file manager software such as FileZ. I use Zlauncher which includes a very good file manager app for my PDA.

The problem is with the PC. not the pda. I accidentally, without knowing made a folder and my photos are in there. I don't want the photos in the folder and want them without being in the folder. I use Kodak share and I keep getting a message that the photos are in a folder and it could not retreive them. All I get is a box with a red X. How can I get a pic ture instead of the red box. Does that box mean that the photos are deleted? I just want the photos OUT of the folder singly. #2 problem is that I would to get a picture when I use the Kodak share instead of a red x. Almost all of the photos in my kodak share box have that.

Since this is a new issue completely unrelated to the original problem and has nothing to do with a PDA, you should start a new thread in the Multimedia forum for this.
