PDA & the Network
Hi
Just got a Tungsten E2. Obviously it can be connected to the Network.

Q1. Do I need extra software? heard that some people use some sort of adapters?

Q2. Don't recognise any of the (not sure what you would call them - providers?) when i try to set up the connection eg: Win RAS Aimnet Compuserve etc:

Would like it to connect via bluetooth to my computer and on the the internet. Is this possible?

Have a couple of progs on my handheld like a currency converter that would benefit from a live update of exchange rates. that's just an example.

Sorry I have Win XP Professional. SP2
Handheld is Palm Tungsten E2
Handheld has OS Garnet v. 5.4.7

Pretty new to this sort of thing so a straightforward route would be good.

Any help for this silver surfer would be much appreciated

Thks

In my experience, there's nothing straightforward about connecting devices via Bluetooth for the purpose of transferring data. I'll see if I can help get you on your way and maybe someone else will come along with a better experience to share.

First, you need Bluetooth on the computer. Is this a laptop with built-in Bluetooth? Or do you need to purchase a dongle to establish this type of connectivity?

If you have a Bluetooth adapter installed and configured, can you get the devices to "see" each other by turning Bluetooth on for both the computer and the PDA and searching for devices from one and then the other?

The instructions for pairing devices and establishing security codes vary widely from one adapter to another, so I can't give you specifics as to "click this then that". You have to feel your way through in establishing the initial communications link.

Did the PDA come with any instructions as to how to use Bluetooth to establish network connectivity? What about your computer's Bluetooth adapter? Reading those manuals & instructions will go a long way in helping you connect the two.

Hi

Wanted it to connect to my desktop which i am probably now sure has no built in Blootooth ability but Ill check in the config.

just gave me a thought though and i am currently checking my laptop to see if it has any Bluetooth capability.

Thks for advice. failing all then it looks like a bluetooth dongle seems the obvious option.

Thks again.
