MAC (0S8) Problem logging onto network
Hello,

Can anyone please offer some assistance.

I am using a networked MAC system (OS8). I was able to logon to the network via the network login but for some reason now when I bootup the computer the network login does not appear and proceeds to load the OS.

I haven't changed any network settings!!!!!!

Many thanks for your assistance.

Regards
Andrea.

Check in the Extensions Manager for the "Multiple Users" Control Panel. Is it enabled? If not, enable it. If so, open the Control Panel and double-check it's settings.

What version of MacOS 8 are you running (8.0, 8.1, 8.5, or 8.6)?

Hello,

I have checked the extentions manager under control panel but can't seem to find anything for "Multiple Users".

I am running MAC version 8.0

I hope this helps.

Andrea.

Andrea,

Are you getting access to the Internet? If so, the very first thing to do is update from 8.0 to *at least* MacOS 8.1. MacOS 8.0 was notoriously unreliable, and a few years ago Apple quickly released the 8.1 update to correct many of the issues. You'll want to download and install the updates found at:

Start with the Mac_OS_8.1_Update.smi.bin -- that's the MacOS 8.1 updater.

Is this computer used to logon to a business network? Do you recall what the network logon screen was like? (perhaps Novell? Apple Remote Access (ARA)?)

FYI, don't worry about not having "Multiple Users". That didn't come along until MacOS 9.x. I just wanted to make absolutely sure this was a MacOS 8.x machine.
