I seem to have a recurring problem with my CDRom Drive
I have gotten help here before for a smililar problem.. but once again, I need to use my CDRom to load a program I just purchased and I get the error message:

D:/ is not accessible
The Device is not ready
==============
Each time in the past, I was given different instructions and each time I was able to restore access by using the new instructions.
.....but the previous instructions didn't seem to work as I understood them.
Is there someone who could walk me through the problem this time and help me avoid this in the future ...........
I do NOT know what makes it become inaccessible.

drive could be going bad. the below test to see if it is bad and just refreshes the driver on a good one. just do the cd-rom part in the below as necessary.

Boot into Safe Mode - (tap F8 twice per second during a restart; Choose option number three (3) in the Windows Startup dialog box using the arrow keys below the Delete key, and strike the Enter key; Click Ok when prompted);

Right click My Computer; Point to Properties; Click the Device Manager tab; Click the plus sign beside CDROM; Highlight each device inside CDROM, each in turn, and click the Add/Remove button until no main CDROM entry is present.

Repeat with each device below that, Display Adapters etc. (see exceptions below), removing all duplicate entries inside a main heading. If duplicates are present, remove all those Duplicate Entries Only, inside a main heading.

Do Not bother Hard Disk Controllers, System Devices, and USB controllers.

Restart via the Start button and Windows will redetect, refresh and only replace those devices needed. There is no use for 2 keyboards, CDROM etc. as those duplicates cause some of the errors you describe.

try to check the cables...

there are different types of cables out there
(IDE/SCSI... to name a few)

or try to remove your cables and install them again

So I booted into safe mode and there were the following entries:

- CD Rom controllers
- ! Mitsumi CD-Rom Controller with Newer Single speed drive
- CDRom
- O LITEON CD-ROM LTN301
--------------------------------------
I "removed" the "LITEON" entry under CDRom
and then clicked OK and then rebooted using the START button
No luck
Should I do something with the "CDRom controller" entry?

I did notice something else that may or may not be relevant.
My CD rom used to be Q:/ drive

and after the last time I lost it and got the instructions to fix it....
it worked, but the CDRom drive then became D: with a picture of a CDRom next to it.

Now it says:
Removable Disk (D:/) and there is no picture of a CD next to it
What would be the reason for that and could that be why it can't be accessed.
each time I lose the CDRom access it is something a little different.
Any suggestions?

Be sure you get BOTH of them completely removed. Then reboot to allow it to redetect the drive.

If that doesn't do the job, you're probably going to need a new drive.
