It sounds like the disk is failing/failed.

Download diagnostic software from the disk manufacturer's website & test.
(will run from a bootable floppy - instructions should be on same site)

If it's that bad and that old, usually you can't do much to fix a drive like that.

erwize - please only PM if absolutely necessary - we can communicate fine on this thead

The maker of the hard drive is what I meant. You may need to remove it from your PC to see.

Bob is probably correct but I would still try my suggestion. If it fails then use the same or similar software to "write zeros" to the drive (low level format).

Or buy or get hold of a new or known good used drive & replace.

Sometimes during bootup, or if you can get to the CMOS, you can see initials that may give an indication of the manufacturer.

But formatting a drive as old, and as small, that is in your computer for 2 days is not a good thing.

Also, don't rush out and just get a new one. Most won't work in a computer that old.

Heed above advice,{both, your choice}, also depending on what you do, replace your cmos/bios battery if it's as old as your pute!
This could have been part of your problem{if not all} in the beginning!
Google "weak bios battery" and "weak cmos battery" and note all the problems this can cause.
You can also google "dead" in place of "weak" and still more. Even the experts don't know all the problems this causes!

Just a heads up for the future, as even with a new pute one has no idea how old that battery is. Should be fairly new but is it??.

Good luck.
