Thats a first for me and a bit weird.

Try Pocket KillBox:

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

Usage Information:
Download this file, extract it, and run the killbox.exe file. When it loads type the full path to the file you would like to delete in the field and press the Delete File button (looks like a red circle with a white X). It will prompt you to reboot, allow it to do so, and hopefully your file will now be deleted.

Zee
No, no errors after "deltree" command
Yes, I restarted and the weird shortcut was there.

Believe me Zee, I'm queen of 'weird' computer stuff!

I'll download the KillBox tonight and see if that works.
Thanks,
Idar

All of this is a first for me.

One doubt I have:

When you used "deltree c:\recycled" that file was in the Recycle Bin not restored, correct?

yes, it was in the recycle bin.

It's like the file is gone, but for some reason, it still looks like it is there.

What can I say?

Download HijackThis installer from

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...?page=download

Install the tool and launch it. Press "Do a System Scan and Save a Log File".

When the scan is finished, it will generate a log text file.

Copy that log and post it here.

First you have been posting on a Windows 95/98ME area when your problem PC is running XP.

That could have bad results. I was thinking it was your ME system...

Start HJT, click "Do a System Scan only".

Place a check mark on the left of:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://my.myway.com/

Click "Fix checked", close HJT, restart your PC and test.

I'm guessing that is the shortcut that keeps reappearing?

It IS my ME with the problem.
I just usually am on the XP laptop. I forgot that I was supposed to do the Hijack this on the ME, and accidentally posted the Xp Highak THis log. Which I immediately deleted and reposted the correct ME Hijack this log. That probably confused the hell out of you.

Anyway, the myway.com link is NOT the problem. The link is acutally called
Declaration of Revocation_by John Cleese (I just didn't want to have to type all that every time)

Could that be related to the Greetings Workshop software?

I see this link being a possible cause:

O4 - .DEFAULT Startup: Greetings Workshop Reminders.lnk = D:\programs\Greetings Workshop\GWREMIND.EXE (User 'Default user')

If you right-click that link and check Properties, what do you have there?

I don't think Greetings Workshop has anything to do with it.

the phantom link is from a web page I had in my favorites for a while. Then the link was no longer any good, so I began trying to delete it. II wasn't even able to get it out of my Favorites folder, so what I did was move all the other links to a new folder. Rename the original Favorites folder 'trash', then name the folder I put the favorites in Favorites, which worked. But, I still have been unable to get rid of the folder 'trash' , because of the link.

It's been like this, oh, six months or more.

I am attaching screenshot of link's properties.

Start your PC with the startup floppy.

At the A:\ prompt type:

deltree d:\trash

Press Enter, confirm and if that works without errors, restart the PC without the floppy and test.
