Why Couldn't They See Each Other
I had to network 3 Windows 98 Machines; I had to get three computers and format them and install Windows 98 on them. The machines that were being used were two Digital Ventrius FX8s and one Dell Optiplex GX 110. I was able to fully format and install Windows 98 on the three machines. We use a Netgear 8 Port HUB, I put them all in the same workgroup: MSKEN and I made the names: KENSTERONE, KENSTERTWO, and KENSTERTHREE. I used the Microsoft Network Client as the client; I was first of all using the TCP/IP Ethernet Adapter and set the IP addresses as 192.186.xxx.1, 192.186.xxx.2, 192.186.xxx.3. I used 255.255.255.0 as my Subnet Mask for all three; I setup File and Printer Sharing and followed the use of the CD for it. But when I went into Network Neighbourhood, on all three computers it wasn't able to recognize the network. This network is being setup on a HUB, with no internet connection just File and Printer Sharing. So when that didn't work, I was told by I friend who was doing the same project as me that I should be using the Dial-UP Adapter, so I put in IP address, and subnet mask, tried it, and it would work, so then removed the Ethernet Adapter Protocol, and just ran the Dial-up, but nothing worked. So I removed the bindings, ran them as Windows Logon Client, and nothing. So what am I missing, I checked the hardware profiles and yes they were there. Should have I been using the Microsoft Client Dial-Up Protocol on each computer, or should I have just used the Adapter Dial-Up Protocol? Seriously I might still have a chance tomorrow, but I just want to know what I am doing wrong?

This was my culminating project, so I have to really understand why it didn't work.
What are some good tutorials on this since I have three. But the mostly say the same thing.
Thanks
Ken
