many probs
OKAY I AM ABOUT TO SCREAM !!!!!!!

I have about had it with this damn puter. I am running windows 98Se and IE5.5

First things first.. I cannot get a scan disk to finish or a defrag. I cant get the defrag to finish because it says there are errors on the disk to fix first. then I try to run scan disk and either i get the message scan disk has restarted 10 times.. etc.. or it just freezes. now i have tried it in safe mode with just a normal scan or a thorough scan and no matter which one I do it get either one of those errors. Now lately I have been getting there is not enough memory to run that program after about a half hour of being on the net. I am only running my winamp and my Paint shop Pro usually. I have done this for ages and have never had this problem before. IS it time i reformat maybe? I dont know i am just getting so frustrated with coming on my computer anymore.. Tons of people I know can leave their computer on 24/7 with no problems .. i have never been able to due to the freezing and I cant seem to get it fixed.. any one with any ideas?

Thanks ahead of time

Also do a search on your pc for this file Flcss.exe
Hope it's not found.
It would indicate the Fun Love virus.

OK then let's talk resources. Go to start>run and type RSRCMTR press enter to start Resource Meter. Graphics programs can use resources quickly. You may not realize it at the time.

Monitor how low they are.

To limit the amount of resources being used at Start

Run startup log
Download it here:
http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Toys.html
It will generate a text file with a list of all startups.

Go to this site and compare to the list to see what is not needed. Prune your startups.

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm

You say you are having freezes? On the internet or off? Do they coincide with the memory messages? Or not?

Please post your system specs.

Freezes can mean many things.

Take the long way around and see if you find it here:
Start>Programs>accessories>System Tools>resource Meter

Also, you say the freezes just started happening. CAn youpinpoint any changes you made to your system right before this started? Hardware additions or possibly software installs? Anything in particular you can think of.

now what do i do?

Install Resource Meter. Go to Control panel>add remove Programs>windows setup tab
Scroll to system tools on the list. Double click it.
Put a check in System Resource Meter. Click OK. You may be asked for your Install disk.

We are dealing with resources here. Not the freezes.

Please post your system specs and as many details as possible. Freezes can be Hardware related. Bad RAM. Overheating. Or conflicts. Please post the details of what you have tried and what the result was for the actual freezes.

okay installed the resource meter and its at like 94% when I first open it before anything. then when i open this window its at 88% for system resources. 88 % for user resources. and 89% for GDI resources and I am sorry but not sure how to tell u system specs? sorry somewhat computer dumb. and I have tried a ton of different things for system freezes. Gosh .. uhmm do the ad aware thing all the time. done start log many times , msconfig, check that .. check for virus' , hmm do my defrags, scan disks..etc usually after the basics are done its okay for a while then after a month or so I am right back to square one. I do use Paint shop Pro 7 alot. you mentioned something about a graphic program is that what you mean? but I had alot of this problem before I used PSP ...

tell me how to give you my system specs and I will do that

thanks
