Question Windows 98 'display adaptor' not working
my laptop runs windows 98, and today it threw an error at me saying its display adaptor wasnt working and then it said the device was installed (well seeing as its a laptop i'd hope the screen was installed) but not working properly. i put in the back up disc (it's got 2) to try to fix the problem, but it then threw up a load of 'alternative' display drivers! I clicked on one, and no longer get the error, but i still cant get out of 8bit graphics and really tiny display. any ideas?!?!

Whats the make and model of laptop?

Sounds like the driver got lost or corrupted and your not selecting the right one from the "alternative" list.

Besides the make and model of the computer, what is listed under display adapters in deice manager?
The display adapter is not the screen, it is the device that sends the signal to the screen.
If you have internet access with the laptop, go to the manufacturer's support site and download the latest drivers for the display adapter for your computer model, display adapter from there.Make sure it is for OS.

thanks for the help, I'm not sure what model it is, I'll check later.. Can get it online cos my USB dongle isn't supported by it (!!) and downloading the right driver is a nightmare cos my online thingy is a mac or The iPod which notoriously don't like windows!! I only bought it to play chaos gate.... I'll keep trying tho, if I find more info I'll prob return!! :0)
