Follow the directions at the links below...read up it all first.

Of course, you need the product key (the original one underneath on a label may or may not be corresponding to any CD disk you are using) good luck

Sounds like it was just about ready to die....

Not being "seen" by BIOS at startup is the first sign- sorry if that has happened.

What exactly did you try? Was whatever completed successfully, such as running the Recovery Console and using the FIXBOOT command?

You could examine the drive (but do not try to boot from it) by using a notebook drive adatper that matches the type of hard drive you have and will let you connect into another computer.

Here is an example of one:

But, we are not sure if you have an IDE drive in the notebook, or not.....

It also matters on the host or desktop computer, whether the system supports IDE drives

If the drive is not turning on, and is damaged electrically, then no it is not going to be able to be read from. Drives that will not boot up can most often be read and files saved.

May be hard to tell if it is spinning, but if you are sure, then you have to get a new drive.

Remove all extras....just the computer, and make sure it has a battery that is charged inside....try to start it up.

Can you get to the BIOS at all?

Battery problems cause unusual behavior in laptops. Try removing the battery and plugging it in to AC before you boot it up. If that doesn't do it, it's most likely a bad drive.
