Cool XPS 400 Complete Upgrade
Hey everyone, 1st post here, OK I'll get the rest of the info in a bit but I need to know:

Wat equipment do I get to update this xps 400 as much as I can?

I'm thinking xp is being forced out w/Windows 7 (which I'll get) but I want to "pump up" this xps 400. So any & all help will be Greatly Appreciated.
It's working fine & reasonably fast but not fast enough. I'm using ATT 6.0 but at 8000" from the box I'm almost at 5.0
There's more I can say but I'll start off w/this question first.
Glad to be here, Thanks

PS I know some will say upgrade to something else but let me start off w/this 1st.

What do you want the computer to do that it currently won't? Go to crucial.com to check for memory upgrades.

And I have no idea what this statement means.

Cool Xps 400
The att tech told me that far of a distance from the att box will slow my speed down, from 6mb & I'm getting about 5mb. Thanks for that memory tip, I know the new PC's are much better than my xps 400 & I was wondering if it's possible to build this 400 up so I can learn more. I'm teaching myself (at my age). Again Thanks.

There's nothing you can upgrade to improve your Internet connection speed. That's a physical, technical limitation you can't do anything about.

Well I understand that & that I can't change my MB but the processor now that I think that can be improved & enlarge my memory modules & what 2 HDD would you suggest I could use? Also do you think getting floppies would be smart? Do you see what I'm getting at? Thanks

I've been looking for another processor for my XPS400, I'm wondering which one I can get that's bigger than my 2.80 Ghz Intel Pentium D. Mine has a 16 Kb primary memory cache, 64 bit ready, it's multi-core (2 total) & it's not hyper-threaded. Does anyone know where or what I can get? I'm getting ready to insert bigger modules to increase the memory. I'm also going to modify the tower & put a fan to exit out the side. I'm also getting ready to enlarge both HDDs to 500 up from 160 & 40 GB.So anybody have any ideas? Thanks

OK never mind I've gone to Intel, regardless of some warnings & slowly but surely I'll (am) figuring it out. Thanks...

I went to Intel & copied all the different Processors, I'm still reading to make a choice, so I'd say go to Intel 1st to investigate. I've been to other places that seemed OK but I have to finish reading all this 1st. So try there & get familiar. Sorry for being slow but I've had to wait here a long time & no one answered. I'll be back. Good Luck.

cscoot03, you have to start your own thread. You've piggybacked onto someone else's thread, and that's why you're not getting responses.

I apologize but both of the names are "me".

When I tried signing in you did not accept anonomous-x, so I signed in with one of my other emails (I have more than 10 email addresses!). I hope you understand & accept my apology.
I'm on the PC days at a time trying to learn (at my age).
Thank you
PS I was just trying to help the other person concidering when I asked (as anonomous-x) no one answered me. OK?
Thanks
