Solved: Pages will not load or connect.
Pages will not load or connect. This is a problem that occurs randomly but frequently. A page that loaded/connected normally one minute, hour, day doesn’t load/connect. Links within pages that load don’t, even though they did two minutes previously. A good example is this forum; the dialog box for a new post comes up, fill it in and, bingo, sending it brings up the error. I used to have this problem once in a great, great while, probably as frequently as most people; then I switched my DSL over to fiber-optics and voila! Problems. It doesn’t strike me as reasonable to assume that was the problem because all the fiber is doing is passing the signal more efficiently, yes? Is there any hidden aspects of fiber-optics I don’t know about that could cause a problem like this? I updated to Avast anti-virus and Malewarebytes, loaded them did both a regular scan and a boot-scan, found a few root-kits, removed them but the problem persists.

I just read about google-analytics and have disabled all cookies. I seem to be able to load this site now, is this the only solution?
Any ideas?

You need to identify your Browser
The problem is most likely to be caused by the web browser you're using; but you have neglected to mention which one you are using.

Specify which browser you use, including its version number: e.g. Internet Explorer 6.

A typical solution to browser-related faults is to uninstall the current browser program that is experiencing the error (if possible), and then reboot and reinstall it. Or, when reinstalling, install any other browser that your operating system can run (e.g. Firefox 2).

Connectivity faults are not usually anything to do with the Operating System software. It would therefore NOT be worthwhile to re-install Windows.

Hmmmm?
Oophs, using Firefox 3.6.6.

Just got back in the country.

Uninstalled Firefox and loaded the newest version and there are at least two sites I just tried that don't even give me an error page, just will not load: One was the Adobe Flash Player update site. The site actually loaded but not download would initiate. Just tried Adobe Reader and it will not download either. Just tried two other sites and pages load but certain fields don't show up or can't be filled in.
Sooooo, any other ideas.

Unfortunately, I've not run that version of Firefox.

If you have any other browser installed, such as Internet Explorer, do you get the same faults when using that other browser? If you do, then you have some type of networking error. If you don't, then you have an error specific to Firefox.

In the latter case, your most likely solution might be to: (a) uninstall Firefox (only Firefox, not Windows!); then (b) reboot; then (c) re-install Firefox 3.

If it is a networking error, it's possible that your DSL is faulty (either in hardware or software). Think about what changes you made in software, when you installed the DSL. If there genuinely were no such changes, you could have a loose connection, a broken or faulty connector, or a damaged cable - it does happen!

Try replacing the cable(s) and connector(s), one by one, with known good ones. Test again after each step. Also consider whether you may be using a new cable that's longer than the max recommended length.

A hardware fault that is intermittent may be as simple as an old or worn cable, a dirty cable, or a loose fitting connector.

Ah Ha
Well, it seems it was a Java Script problem; disabled all Java Script plugins, re-enabled and things seem to be working again. Fingers crossed, thanks for your responses.
