Exclamation Windows 98 SE setup problem
every-time i try to install windows 98 SE, the computer boots the cd, but after formating the HDD a screen comes up with a blue background that says setup is preparing to install Windows 98, then it says cd101: error reading drive D abort, retry, fail?,
and every-time i hit retry it says the same error, this only happens in windows 98 (both 98 gold and 98 SE) i can not figure out why this is happening. (i can install windows ME, 2000, xp, MS-DOS, WFW 3.11, NT 4.0, and 95 without any errors at all, the installs all go smoothly)

Computer Specs: Packard-Bell NEC 8GB HDD, ATI raid IIc AGP graphics, Netgear WG111V3 USB wireless adapter, (Original OS Windows 98 Gold, i have the OEM disk which won't work on any other system unless it is a Packard-Bell NEC.)

It is mostly likely due to some damage (scratch, fogging or marks) on the Windows 98 CD.

Try copying the contents of the CD to C:\Win98 and run setup from there to see if that resolves it.

the cd is fine, no scratches, completely clean, so the only thing i can think of, is my cd drive is starting to go, because i have windows me right now and i can sometimes run cds but not all of the time, so i think i might just go buy a new one and then try that.

Yes, good idea and CD/DVD drives are so cheap these days.
