My NEC Versa, model PC-450-1521 will boot to the point that it has run through virus checks and drivers but stops at a screen MODEM LOADED and then ask C:\> for a file name. What file name?

What OS is it running?
Does it actually ask for a file name (something like "Please enter file name"), or just display the C:\> prompt in a black window?

Sounds like it's Just booting to a Command Prompt. Do you know if this is running some version of Windows, or is this PC new to you?

Try typing these two commands, press Enter after each, let;s see if either will tell us what OS is running:
ver
winver

You can also try typing Win at the prompt. As old as that model is, it may have Win 3.1/WFW 3.11 installed.

Then all you need to do is type Win and press Enter to start Windows.

Wink NEC Versa boot problem
You are a genius. It worked! I tried typing "windows", but it only wanted "win".

I need to create a toolbar with "start" so I can access the internet.

You deserve a lot of credit. I have asked many and nothing they suggested, worked. That is, until now.

Thank you.

What are you trying to copy?
Not sure what you mean by opened. What program are you using to "open" the disk? You'd use File Mnanger to look at files on a floppy, CD, or hard drive. It should be in the Main program group.
