Using Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 on Windows XP I have a large number of talks done on CDs (NOT by me) which I need to have transcribed, how to do this? Someone told me I need a 3rd party player which Dragon can recognize and that it wont recognize the usual players. True or not?

Sorry if I am in the wrong place but I can't find where I need to be. I have a Samsung S7350 mb phone and can't find out how to set the texting length of my sms message. I get halfway down the screen and then it goes into page two but that means it will get sent as two sms messages. how do you uninstall anydvd, where no part is left anywhere on the hard drive. Using the uninstall process does not do it. Using perfect uninstaller does not do it. using all the different registry cleaners does not do it. There is a file is system32 called anydvd.sys. If you manualy remove this file; your cd/dvd drive will not show up on your computer.

No alert sounds in Windows Live Messenger

I no longer hear sounds from 2009 Windows Live Messenger when a new Instant message arrives. The sounds play when testing them in Tools/Options. I have checked my Audio Video set-up in Messenger and all is OK.

I have searched all over Tech Support Guy and Google for an answer and have found no solution. I have also reinstalled Messenger to no avail.

Any ideas?

Adobe Designer alignment

I created a form in Adobe Designer and then had to change the page size to a smaller width. I'm trying to resize and realign the text boxes etc. to fit into the new page but all of the boxes have automatically aligned to the right side of the page (alignment within text boxes is fine). The only way I can get something to align closer than 2 inches away from the left margin is to expand the box so it is page width but in cases where there is more than one text box at the same horizontal alignment - ex. name and phone number boxes, I can't make them smaller and align one to the left. I can put them side by side but they have to be extended over whatever's on the right. Any suggestions besides starting over? it's a very big form.

No sound from computer?

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I got on my computer to watch a tv show and I couldn't get any sound. Nothing is muted and the speakers work fine. I am wondering what do I need to do to figure out why it isn't working? I tried checking for new drivers, restarting, and plugging the speakers into another source but it didn't work. Usually when I plug my speakers in I can hear a sound coming from them when they connect to the audio jack but when I try it now nothing happens. I plugged the same cord that I have plugged into my computer into my iPod and I could hear the music playing just fine, so I know it has nothing to do with the speakers.

I am worried that I somehow ruined the sound on my computer, I have my computer and my 360 and PS3 all connected to this audio switch from Radio Shack that I use since my stereo only has one input and i didn't want to keep changing cords. Two days ago when I was playing my 360 I went to push a button to change my sound to the PS3 so I could watch a movie and I got shocked, I'm thinking it was because of static shock that I got from my couch. The sound worked fine before but now it doesn't work at all. I am worried that I somehow fried my audio ports or something. How would I check? My audio port is built into my motherboard and I haven't done any installations lately. I run Windows 7 Home Professional 64 bit.

CutePDF problem with Word

We are encountering a problem when we "print" Word documents to PDF using CutePDF. It only happens periodically so it has been a problem to diagnose. We recently converted from Office 2000 to Office 2007 so we are still frequently dealing with documents created in the older version. What happens is when we "print" a Word document with CutePDF, a PDF version of the document is created and the original Word document is also converted to PDF. When you view it in the folder it still has the Word icon and the Word extension (.doc), but when you try to open it with Word you get a conversion window displaying gibberish and it indicates that Word does not recognize the format. If you do an "Open with" and select Adobe Reader, the document opens as a PDF file. I know that Word 2007 now allows you to save directly to PDF, but a lot of my users have used CutePDF for a long time and are comfortable with it so I like to get to the bottom of this and get it corrected if possible.:(

Has anyone encountered this and determined the cause?

Should i keep the set up file's for software ,iv never deleted them but im just wondering if i should keep these files for good keeping in case of problems. Iv never had issues with my software yet but if i get a virus or delete something i need to run a specific software ,will i need the setup file to repair it.

I would like to know how i can make back ups

If someone can give my some links on how to keep my software rock solid and unchanged that would be great because i would really like to know.

Monitor Giving "No Signal" Message, Help!

After running into an internet connection related problem, I did not use my computer for about 3-4 weeks, and just today I started it up and to my surprise everything worked fine. I noticed there were some updates available and shut down my computer so they could be updated. I also needed to move around some cords so it would be more comfortable to me, being impatient of seeing "Update 19 out of 54" for about 10 minutes, I was forced to power down in the worst way possible, yes, I pressed the power button on the back of my tower, I figured it wouldn't matter seeing as I was shutting down anyways. When I turned my computer back on, my computer would boot up, and just run like it always did (making beeping noises about every 45 seconds, not sure if it always did that or not), except for the fact that my monitor light would stay orange (stand by I beleive), and when I would turn off my monitor and turn it back on, it would have a "No Signal Digital" message displayed on teh screen for about 7 seconds, and then it would be all black. I checked my cables, especially the monitor related ones, and they are all correctly positioned, my graphics card is a Radeon 2600XT, please help me if you can, thanks.

seeing that they are one of the same it appears this programme can't be deemed 100% accurate.

Useless Firefox

I had an installation of Firefox 3.5.5 on my system which (all of a sudden) refused to do anything, I could'nt even scroll up or down the page, or enter any text in the search box, it just froze. I uninstalled this and downloaded another version which is exactly the same. Also, I had a recent installation of Kaspersky anti-virus 2009 which told me that my operating system (XP service pack 3) had changed since the installation of Kaspersky and that I had to reinstall it, which I had to do manually as it would not uninstall from add/remove programs. I reinstalled Kaspersky which went the same way as firefox (totally unresponsive).Everything else on my computer is working fine, including Internet Explorer, has anyone any idea what the problem may be?.

It does recognize my Seagate backup drive.

I have a Dell desktop computer, 4700 series. the operating system is XP. It's about 5 years old. My internet explorer and other programs is working fine, slow, but ok.
My problem is Mozilla Thunderbird. When I open it, the window is very oversized. I can only see about 1/4 of it.
I can not read my mail. I have tried to reduce it, by grabing the lower left corner and turning it into the double arrow, but no luck, it won't work with the page, only the tray.
I'm very frustrated to say the least.

Mounting or converting a raw disk image [DriveImageXML trouble]

Hey, I'm new here. I was told that techguy had the best English speaking computer forum and I'm looking forward to exploring it further.

My problem:
I usually run my backup to an external hd using DriveImageXML. The program creates two files, one file (if I understood correctly) contains a raw binary copy of the hd and an xml file that specifies the paths on the raw copy. But now I've got a problem, my antivirus software got angry and deleted the xml file. Before I noticed it the file had been overwritten and cant be restored with Recuva.

My approach:
I'm looking now for a way to get some of the files from the raw file. I have tried to create a cue file and mount the bin in Daemon Tools but it says that image is too large (47GB), I have tried to mount the raw image with Mount Image but it would not work.

My question:
Is there a way to convert the file to a convenient format (VHD or simular) or mount it? I appreciate any suggestions.

[Will add that I tried to contact DriveImageXML and ask if they have any indexing tool or similar rescue tools, but obviously just got the answer that they do not give support to the free version]

1. Just use proprietary formats for backup,
2. Always have your files in at least two places *cry*

Backup: off-site storage solutions?

For the last year or so I used the following as my backup strategy in case of fire/water damage: take weekly backups on a slim portable drive that I lock up in water and fire proof safe.

I'm starting to think of leveraging technology and putting the whole backup on auto-pilot, so I had the idea of using the following strategy:

1) Daily incremental backups of entire system on external hard drive that's always hooked up to the computer (and not protected from disaster)
2) Daily incremental backups of important files only (<10GB) on online storage

Any thoughts on this strategy? What solutions do I have available?
I'm thinking:

1) Acronis True Image online backup - 25 GB for $5/month; apparently should be pretty easy to use.
2) Some kind of cloud storage that I can just map as a drive and do incremental backups to it.
3) Other?

Hi,
I don't use MS Messenger that came with my Windows XP when I bought a Gateway PC.
I went into mscofig and unchecked it so it wouldn't run at start up, but yesterday I must have clicked on something when I was in my Yahoo mail accidently and now I'm getting a pop up every time I start the computer that says:
Window Messenger - Display Name
Type the name you want your contacts to see.
Display name (required)
I checked msconfig again and it is unchecked in startup, and then I came to this forum searched for other Posts, found one that led me to directions to "Disable Messenger MSN, Published By Marc Liron - Microsoft MVP" I followed all the directions given to go into Regedit, but it didn't work, as he said it might not on Windows XP 2.
Soooo can anyone help me? I wish I knew how to undo whatever I did yesterday.

Long time to do backups using Syncback software

I am using a Dell Dimension 4300 PC with Windows XP Home OS with Service Pack 3. The hard drive on the PC is only 40 GB�s. I am backing up this drive to a WD 120 GB�s external hard drive. These backups using Syncback software are taking an inordinately long time to complete. I recently deleted approximately 5 GB�s from my hard drive and my backup took almost 3 hours to complete. It shows that I have over 290,000 files to backup. There must be something wrong with the way I have asked for the back up to be done because it seems to be copying all the files each time. I only want to backup any new files or files that have changed. Previously it always took less than an hour to do a backup. Is there a setting I can use that will do only an incremental backup, i.e. only new or changed files or synchronise in one direction only? Is there some other action I should take to improve the backup time?

Need some help desperately! At work my team have an extra PC which we share. If we get new TV eps etc we upload it, so we can share the files. (almost like a server, although it's a normal PC) Time and time again, we find that copying and uploding files taking eons and we discover that other users are logged on and copying the files. We running WindowsXP on the PC, while our laptops all have VISTA. We have set-up the access and security so that only we have access to this PC but we still finding others are able to log on here and copy our files.
Is there any free software we can install on the PC to only allow us access to these files? Maybe one that requires the user to enter a password to access the files???

Facebook wont login!

I use facebook on my iphone and it works fine but for some reason it wont work on my computer. I have tried both IE and FIrefox. I have logged into my boyfriends account successfully but when I try mine it just refreshes the login page and says 'you need to login to view this page' in a yellow bar. It seems very odd that i can log in to my boyfriends account but not my own and that my own is working ok on my iphone. Any ideas?

Under device manager (which is the only place I can find any mention of it) it says there is a driver installed and the status says the device is working properly. What am I supposed to do now?

After installing ie8 (completely) and assuring my home page was still what I wanted I shut my computer down for the night. Upon resarting I clicked on the Explorer button and the following came up http://www.google.com/toolbar/ie8/done.html I then went to my home page but noticed that google had placed things in my favorites folder so I deleted them. Off and on when ever I would go on the internet this same google page would come up. I then thinking it had something to do with ie8 and being very annoyed by it I uninstalled ie8. But the was surprised that I continued to get this google page every once in awhile of when staring my computer and then clicking on explore. I have gone into my registry and removed everything even closely related to either google or ie8 but I am still being hijacked by google. I have tried thre different anti virus programs and also some spyware programs but with no luck.

AMD External Events Utility

I've read 100 different posts/forums/suggestions that all recommend users to "update your drivers". I've updated everything from my BIOS to the software on my televisions (via flashdrive) and everything was groovy until I updated the ATI Radeon HD4350 in my HPpavillion 6150t. Vista started crashing, my Windows Experience Index stopped functioning, and the ATI update that then popped up in the Windows Update wouldn't install correctly -along w/ a code that explained that my current version probably surpassed the update. I went to "services.msc" to see what had changed, and AMD External Events Utility (and Easybits?) were the only two. I've disabled AMD eeu (and easybits) and the Windows Experience Index is still inop. What IS the AMD EEU, and should I restore to a pre- EEU configuration? The updated driver did improve the display marginally. Any experienced feedback would be greatly appriciated.

external hard drive appears to be erased

I've been using my external hardrive for backup for a couple of years. Today my computer would not allow me access: error message. I tried rebooting - no good. I scanned the drive for viruses. Message said it found and corrected a few errors. This time I gained access - only to find that the drive was blank. Message said "This folder is empty."

Tried hooking it up to my laptop - same message. Any ideas how I can recover my data? All my videos and raw footage are also on this drive.

Solved: How restore disk image to new hard drive?

Hi. Here is the situation:

System is Windows XP Pro, quite old -- got in 2004, I think. Hard drive started acting up. One of the last things I was able to do was to use Norton 10.0 to backup an image of the C-drive over the network to another machine. That is, a backup of the entire computer, not just selected files and folder. Took forever. (Also backed up the D-drive -- a separate hard drive -- to the same networked machine.) Shortly after this, the C-drive crashed for good.

So I bought a similar hard drive. Not exactly the same, but as close as I could reasonably get. The original (failed) drive is IDE Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 250Gig. The replacement drive is Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB, which is an Enhanced IDE drive. Then replaced the failed drive with the new one. Both were set to "cable select."

I can successfully boot from the Norton CD. I can start networking services and map the Y-drive to the folder across the network containing the backup images for C:\ and D:\. Looking at the partition information it is seeing C:\ as primary & bootable, but has it's size as 238GB. However, when I click on "Recover My Computer", nothing happens after a while.

It starts off with some disk activity and some CD activity, then nothing. No networking going on at any time. After this, Norton seems to hang.

Now, I haven't formatted the new hard drive. Should I have to? I don't understand things like Master Boot Record (MBR) too well -- Norton allows one to recover that -- should I do that?

Or did I mess up by not getting the exact same kind of hard drive?

Bluetooth Install/Unintall error 2753 f84988_btins.dll

Running into this (and other errors) when trying to install or uninstall Bluetooth drivers.

Other errors just indicate cannot complete the install or uninstall. this is the only error message that consistently returns.

WinXP Pro SP3

Bluetooth Software 1.4.1.7 will not uninstall. Gets a message to see a message that does not appear, and locks up.

Bluetooth Configuration just locks up.

Widcomm, IOGEAR, ThinkPad Bluetooth, and others give the above error trying to install.

1) error 2753 appears to be a generic windows error indicating cannot overwrite a file or not permissions
2) f84988_btins.dll appears to be a specific Widcomm or other bluetooth file which I cannot find.

I have found many references to this error on the internet. But not one that posts a solution or even good explanation of the cause.

Solved: Belarc Adviser and Printing

I just installed a new monitor and wanted to update my Belarc Adviser. I am able to look at the new Belarc listing on screen, but when I try to print it, I get a message saying "no printer selected." There are two options in the printing window, which are "Add Printer" and "Find Printer." Neither one works. I contacted Belarc who tell me that I should print from my browser. I have no idea what they are talking about, but they also suggested going to Tech Support Guy . . . so here I am.

Has anyone ever used Xosl to dualboot multiple operating systems? I want to try it out as I have to redo all the hard drives on my desktop and was just wondering if anyone has given it a try and if they ran into any problems or found it hard. I think I have it all figured out just looking to see what others thought. I embedded Xosl into a freedos live cd and will be installing Xosl to a 1gb partition, will this create any problems?

I have Symantec anti-virus and spybot search & destroy installed on my computer. And now I want to install Sophos anti-virus in addition.

But I read this instruction: "Before installing Sophos you must remove any other anti-virus program from your computer," before installing Sophos.

Does anyone know the exact way in which Sophos would be incompatible with Symantec and Spybot ?? Will they both still work properly if I disobey this instruction ?? Has anyone tried having both installed simultaneously ??

How do I check email with msn

I have a blackberry, but it doesn't come with a data plan due to the amazingly cheap plan I am on. Instead it comes with unlimited Social Networking - so I can go on Facebook, MSN Messenger, MySpace and such. Checking email is not included.

So if I want to check my email, I know I can simply forward all my emails to my phonenumber@msg.telusmobility.com, but it comes in as a SMS message and only 140 characters.

So I was wondering if there was an MSN bot or just some way that when I get an email, I will be able to open it up in Windows Live Messenger. Or Facebook, but I don't think Facebook is possible.

Qn 1) How can I extract the words bluewidgetsdomain, green-widgets-domain, red-widgets-domain from each row and delete the rest of the words

Qn 2) For the rows that have the phrase [widgets at], I want to extract all the words after [widgets at] so I can get a list of the domain names, how can I do it?

Qn 3) I want to extract all domains with ending with .com only. (example, in this example the http://www.bluewidgetsdomain.com/ will be extracted)

Qn 4) I want to extract the words between [We sell] and [at]. (example, for row one, the extracted words will be [big and small blue widgets], for row 3 the extracted words will be [many kinds of widgets. Go to this site for green widgets], for row 5 the extracted words will be [widgets. Check out red widgets] )

Qn 5) If the domain have dashes, I want to remove the dashes. (example, http://www.green-widgets-domain.net/ will become http://www.greenwidgetsdomain.net/)

Qn 6) I want to remove all the slash at the end of the domains. (example, http://www.green-widgets-domain.net/ will become http://www.green-widgets-domain.net)

Qn 7) How do I delete all rows that start with [Our website]
