HI, I just wanted to add that i finally got my video back on track...and how I got about doing that. Although i appreciated the information that i received here, we were on the wrong track. I want to mention this in the event that maybe someone else most likely would come across the same problem. After downloading various malware and antispyware software, and using them and still not doing anything to improve my video problem...it hit me ....maybe its my broadband connection? Sure enough, i was not getting the right amount that I am paying for and had the technician come over to my home and discovered that and straighten it out...so now I do not have that problem of slow buffering and start upon viewing videos. Hope this helps others.:)

I need tips & tricks to keep kitties away from my computer cables. I've used Bitter Apple spray which has worked well in the past on my thicker cables like USB & electrical. But my brand new printer has a skinny cable like an earbud wire diameter & one of the buggers has snacked on it & ruined it. No animals were harmed, it was unplugged at the time & HP is sending me a replacement no charge.
I've seen citrus scented clear plastic tubing but haven't tried it yet. I already have spiral wrap on the phone cord & that works. So all you folks with critters in the house...any ideas or things that work for you? I plan on getting more spiral wrap as well as trying the scented tubing but maybe there's something I don't know about yet?

How Much RAM is Enough?

First and foremost, let's talk about data structure here...

32 Bit uses 4 Bytes to store data, so ANY 32 bit system can only use 2 GB efficiently, however, 32 Bit OS's can only SEE 2 GB, but then it takes some of that RAM away and allots it to the system, therefore you will never fully get to use the FULL 2GB, in fact, installing more RAM than 2 GB on a 32 Bit System is rather pointless....

64 Bit uses 8 Bytes to store data, so it needs more RAM in order to store more, as a necessity, therefore it can read and write more data to the RAM FASTER than a 32 Bit System (OS).

I recommend 2 GB for XP or lower Windows Operating Systems, and 4 GB for Vista or Windows 7.

If you are running a Server, then you may need to upgrade this to 6 or even 8 GB of RAM, depending upon how heavy your traffic is from the internet....

I recommend 64 Bit over 32 Bit ALWAYS, as it can read / write faster to the RAM and can efficiently out perform 32 Bit in many different areas, but not all...

I hope this has been helpful to someone out there....

I'm sure some of you are aware that there are free portable applications out there, and I've got to tell you, this is one of the best sites I've found with some REALLY good Portable Apps for your flash drive (usb stick).

Yes, we have ALL come to this place where we have done something horribly wrong! Our computer is jacked up! We can't do anything with the PC, other than turn it on...

So what's the next step?

UBUNTU TO THE RESCUE!

You download the ubuntu CD and burn it NOW, before you have this problem, you put in your Ubuntu Live CD and a USB Flash Drive and then you can access the internet from the live CD to solve the problem at none other than, this very web site, WHAT A SUGGESTION!

The Live CD allows you to save files to your flash drive, which can then be used to fix stuff, or possibly burn an ISO (provided you have another CD Drive) Or, GASP, you can just install Ubuntu from the live CD, fixing your problems Once & For ALL! :)

Now there is an idea...

I'm not trying to be a smarty pantz here, but Ubuntu has saved me MANY TIMES OVER!

Download it here... (burn the iso to a CD!)
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

(Make sure you choose between 32 or 64 bit and desktop or laptop!)

Hope this was helpful to someone out there...

This Post will be highly informative, all information is from a trusted Computer Tech with 25 years Experience!

That would be me. Please read this thoroughly as it has a lot information within which will help you solve a lot of different problems, you should read this before you decide to post in the forums, if the sollutions within don't solve your problems, then you should proceed to post.

First & Foremost you should be aware that MOST computer problems are Software Related, rather than hardware, unless your getting a screen (the blue screen of death) or your computer is not starting, you should suspect Software FIRST!

I cannot overstate this enough, the FIRST Step in dianosing computer problems starts with a virus scan! The best scan online scanner is One Care Live @ http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm This scanner is so good I would recommend it to anyone!

You should download and install these program (remove your old virus scanner FIRST!) as they are trusted free programs which are great at what they do! If you run these three once a week then most problems you will encounter will be solved!

AVG Free - http://download.cnet.com/windows/ (Type AVG Free in the search bar)

Spybot Search & Destroy (Anti-Spyware)
http://search-destroy-scan.com/2/ind...t2_us&se=yahoo

Malwarebytes' (Anti-Malware Software)
http://malware.bytes-d0wnload.com/de...lwarebytes-new

If you don't like AVG then Get Avira, it's REALLY GOOD!
http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1...antivirus.html

Another common Problem is the computer is running slow, as always, scan with the above programs first, you can then check to see if your running in Virtual Memory Mode, which is where windows uses your hard drive As RAM, because your out of RAM, this slows your computer down to a crawl! Press the Windows Key (The one that looks like a windows logo) & the Pause/Break Key and a window will pop up showing you how much total RAM you have, next press control + alt + delete key (all at once one time only!), vista must select task manager, when you see the task manager, select the Performance Tab, here you will find out how much RAM you are currently using.

If you are using more RAM than the total available RAM, you are running in virtual memory mode, you will need to find out what kind of RAM you have and go purchase some more, you can download & install CPUZ which allows you to get information on your computer, you can get that here. (it's free) http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

(Make sure you get the proper 32 or 64 Bit version which matches your O.S. Version!) If you don't know if your using 32 or 64 Bit, then use the windows Key + Pause/Break key to find out, it will be listed under System Type.

All 64 Bit operaiting system can utilize 32 Bit Programs, but if a 64 Bit is available use that instead! Not all programs work on Vista, and Vista will notify you of such! If you dont' have the money, Ubuntu is a great Operating system, which by the way is BETTER for laptops than ALL other operating system on the market! You can download, install, and use it for FREE (100%!)! http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

If you follow the above steps, you will be able to solve most common problems with a PC, there are a lot more technical problems out there, and I'm glad that they created this forum, it really does help the community, so let's not forget to thank the hoster of these forums for comming up with such a splendid idea, THANKS!

Sometimes uninstalling your anti-virus-program or anti-spyware-program can be rather troublesome. Some may even defy your usual uninstall process altogether, while others may leave a host of stuff behind. The companies themselves surely know about these issues and – instead of creating better programs – they often have made an uninstall tool to help you do a proper job. The problem is that these uninstall tools are not readily found on the websites of these vendors.

So I decided to create a blog to list these tools. Just choose the program you want to uninstall and download the appropriate uninstaller.

The list can be found here.

I was trying to view a parties webcam on yahoo messenger. They saw my cam after inviting them, but they couldn't invite me, cause they said that their camera does not work in yahoo. Is this possilbe? I thought all webcams or any cam can be viewed. Aside from that, they gave me a link where I can sign up, pay $5 to get a username. I think its called webcam.com site. Now, in the past i had no problem exchanging video's with other parties, with my sign in name in Yahoo. I don't recall if i ever assigned a username or was offered a form to do so when i originally set yahoo up. Regardless, why was i able to view others with my sign in name and not this party? Sorry, if this is the wrong area...i thought maybe tips are in order for a situation as mine.
