I'm very frustrated by searching the best answer to the followed:
We've got 30 TB shared storage (HP HDDs if this is matter) for 37 PCs. I need to provide the best ways of backup and data(photo, video chiefly) transfer for this network for less cost, but I need everything reliable. What is the best way to do this?
P.S. We're using Windows.

As the Movie One Liner Thread seems to expired i thought I'd start another one.........

A scene relevant to something I've always believed - and please forgive my incurable Romanticism - is the final Scene from the remake of the Film "The Fog". It's ironic that of all the genres in Cinema the one that should express everything about the healing powers of real and uncontrived Love are found in what they call 'Horror'. Blake - a Ghost ravaged by Leprosy, drowned for a hundred Years - finds the love of his Life and becomes the handsome Man he always was before Disease and Treachery condemned him. There are resonances of the wounded or maimed King of Mytholgy in this - or indeed the Beauty and the Beast Story - which is derived from the same Premise. Not only Blake is healed but so also are the crew of the Elizabeth Dane - and thus everything that they are.

A Movie Scene that certainly doesn't apply is that awful part in the 'Chapman Report' where Naomi Shields - played by not only one of the most sultry of the 60s but also the most lady like of Actresses - the lovely Claire Bloom - is gang raped and not one of those 'Men' - if you can call them that - even attempts to defend her or make any Protest. A scene bereft of any Chivalry or a Gentleman, and you feel so sorry for her a Woman at her most vulnerable!

Been a while since Ive been here,
anyway

some updates (as per the title) and PLSS mods dont add/merge this to the locked CANADA thread of mine which just got silly. thanks

ssssoooooo.

We finally decided for me to immigrate. For thoes that need a refreseher.

Wife is employed (a senior manager for a logistics company), own house in Mississauga.
I'm a type 1 diabetic in telecoms. From the original processing/criminal/medical checks.
The initial application was agreed 14 days before the target of 45 days.
my final visa was agreed within 2 months (timeline was 2-9 months)

My concerns which have addressed was:

1> medications (free here), by wifes company covers 70% of my prescription charges, and when i get a job mine will cover the rest.

2> Money: sale of house, am hoping to have about CAN$300k

My main headacjhe at the moment is sale of house/transporting stuff etc.

I have to land before my visa expires in June, a holiday already was planned for March, thereafter I understandI can come and go for a certain time period as a Permanent Resident , whilst selling house etc.

ON the car front, now from what I have found out that age of car (91/ reg. in 90) that I only need a safety in check when it lands now obvous things I can think of

1> Speedo is dual kms/mph (though might see if I can source a KMP one)
2> headligh units I will need to source ones for LHD

Anything else?

3>I dont have side markers, although, thoes are piss easy

we have over here

1> Annual ROAD TAX
2> Insurance
3> MOT (every year, road worthiness)

what is the equivalent in Canada ?

am I likly to be really hit by insurance?
as RHD in LH country,
am I better to get say a boxster? or 968cab
although the prices for thoes seems quite high

NOT sure what I can get for her on sale here at the moment

ideas pls

thanks

There are two Luckys. There is the day time Lucky who is rested and can remember what he does, and is smart enough to not fix what isn't broke. Then there is the weekend midnight Lucky who is tired and bored and reads posts about security tweaks and tinkers around and then the next day cannot remember anything he did.

Last Thursday evening the format of the Fox News video page changed. Suddenly I could no longer play a video at Fox News. The problem was the same in both Firefox and IE. I checked my wife's computer and her computer would play the videos just fine. I tinkered and tinkered and could not figure out the problem.

I checked to see that flash was the latest version and was working.

I made sure javascript was enabled in both browsers.

I cleared the caches.

I cleared the cookies.

I flushed the DNS cache.

I verified that I had the latest versions of MSXML installed.

I upgraded Sun JRE to the latest version.

I checked to verify that no flash killer or flash killbits were installed.

I removed all immunizations by SpywareBlaster & Spybot S&D.

I checked to make sure there was nothing in the restricted sites zone.

I tried disabling the firewall. I tried disabling my antivirus.

I made sure I had all the latest windows updates.

I disabled the pop-up blockers in Firefox & IE.

I tried putting the web address in the trusted sites zone.

I tinkered around for four days trying to solve the problem, then last night I noticed that there was a new bookmark in the Firefox menu. The bookmark was for the Flash Player Global Settings Manager. I opened the Flash Global Setting Manager and under the Website Privacy Settings tab I noticed that "interactive.foxnews.com" was denied. I changed the setting to "Always Ask" and lo and behold I could again play videos at Fox News.

I wish midnight Lucky would leave well enough alone.

I have never read this before as an issue but it is important to guys like me who enjoy taking photos off the monitor. At the Apple Store, they charge an additional $100 for an anti-glare screen so I imagine it is desirable. We never see advertised if the screen is glare-proof or not. This is an important factor and should be mentioned when purchasing a new PC or laptop. I guess that most laptops come with a glossy screen so the screen appears bright but I find the glare annoying. Do any others find this to be an important issue or is it just me? Which laptops come with glare-proof screens? Incidentally, my monitor now is a Gateway 15" LCD and it seems to be glare-proof. When I upgrade, I am scared that few laptops have glare-proof screens.

Looking forward to this year's basketball season. UNC is ranked a lot higher than I was expecting this season :) Not expecting a repeat for a National Championship, but could definitely see them going deep in the Tournament :)

Let's get the discussion going :D

Another totally random thread...brought on for a reason:

Whenever I let someone borrow my keys for one reason or another (or even if someone just sees my keys) they comment that I have too many. I really doubt that I'm alone, though.

At the moment, I have 17 on my ring, and every single one has a purpose, with at least half being used almost daily.

At one point, I had broken them into two sets, the ones I use daily or almost daily (house key, library building master, etc.) and the second for anything I don't use as often (core keys, rooms I rarely need to get into or that aren't on a maser keyed system, file cabinets, etc.). The problem was, I'd end up someplace and not have the key I needed because I didn't take the infrequent set with me. As a result, they're now all on one ring so I can get into anywhere at any time.

So, how many keys do you carry around with you?

Britney Spears' ex-husband, Kevin Federline, is reportedly in talks to get his own reality show in the near future. The show, according to E! News, would be about Federline, his girlfriend, Victoria Prince, and possibly his two young sons with Spears, Jayden James and Sean Preston.

"Victoria is a big part of the series," a source told E! News about the reported show. "They are not engaged, but she lives with him full-time in his place in Encino."

If the show happens and Victoria is on it, the source says Britney will be fine with it, since Prince already has the pop star's "seal of approval." "Victoria and Britney first met before Britney's tour at Kevin's home," the source said. "They had a meeting face-to-face, when Victoria was home alone with the kids. It was awkward, but Britney was nice."

The source added that the former volleyball player is currently taking graduate classes online. "Victoria actually quit her entry-level job at Fox Sports in L.A. after meeting Kevin," said the source. "She's considering returning to volleyball, but isn't sure."

E! News reported that the show may happen with VH1, but couldn't confirm it. After starring alongside Brit in 2005's short-lived reality show "Britney and Kevin: Chaotic," Kevin reportedly had planned to be in another show in 2008 but canceled it due to Spears' public troubles at the time.

Another seemingly dumb question about dogs from me. And yes it is serious.
My dog, well actually Gene's mom"s dog, was itching and biting itself like crazy for a few days now. The dog does not need a bath, but I thought it maybe had fleas. I couldn't find any. I need to go back intime before I ask the question.

About two months ago, the dog bit and chewed its hair off in two patches. I started to administer Seabreeze ('eucalyptic oil' for unfamililiar but curious Brits and such). It worked, and soothed the spots to where the dog stopped biting itself silly. Anyway, I called the Seabreeze BooBoo medicine, and the dog would get excited evertime I said the name, as it would stop the itch immediately when administering.

Now, the dog biting silly again, but no hotspots, just biting and itching all over this time, and so I ask if he wanted the BooBoo medicine. He remembered what it was, and got excited, and I broke out the Seabreeze, and put it on the same spots that were itching months ago. he has not itched for hours now? Is that weird, or does anyone have animals that act hurt for attention maybe, or are hypochondriacs?

An escaped circus elephant caused a vehicle accident Wednesday night as it ran along North U.S. 81 Bypass near P&K Equipment.

The elephant escaped from the Family Fun Circus at the Garfield County Fairgrounds after being spooked.

According to Enid Police Department Sgt. Billy Varney, the couple in the vehicle were not injured. The elephant suffered a broken tusk, a hurt leg and bumps, bruises and scratches, he said.

“The vehicle side-swiped the elephant as it ran along the road. The vehicle was able to drive away,” Varney said around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The elephant was loaded into a semi-trailer at 11:19 p.m.

The vehicle did sustain some damage. According to Varney, the elephant’s tusk tore a hole in the vehicle’s sheet metal.

One of the animal’s handlers with the circus was slightly injured as he tried to subdue the elephant, apparently suffering injured ribs.

Officers waited for Enid veterinarian Dwight Olson to arrive to sedate the elephant, Varney said. Once it was sedated, workers planned to load the elephant in a semi-trailer to transport it.

Hi, guys. I am anticipating a phone interview for a position as a Student Assistant Desktop Support Technician (PCs and Macs)at a large physics lab. I've not had many computer-related jobs and would love it if anyone who's worked in desktop support or anything similar can clue me in to what sort of questions to expect to be asked, as well as what would be good questions I should ask (besides the basics that are appropriate for any job).

Here's some quick background info about me in case it helps: I studied physics as an undergrad, no degree yet because I'm working on my senior thesis, completed some additional coursework in Software Engineering, don't have much Mac experience, 0 network experience besides trying to set up my own home Internet access...actually, I don't have much computer-related experience at all besides what I've learned in courses, a brief and unproductive internship doing simulations, and the everyday maintaining/fighting with my own PC and my sister's laptop.

Also, here's the job announcement I responded to:

Install, maintain and troubleshoot PC's, Macs, printers and related equipment including system upgrades, system documentation, and problem resolution relating to deskto hardware and software. Support desktop hardware, software applications, and peripheral components. Configure desktops for operation with TCP/IP protocols. Develop PC images, ensuring all security is implemented. Troubleshoot desktop software and hardware failures. Provide assistance to end users on the use of equipment and software. Support Senior Administrator and Network Administrator on hardware and software installations and upgrades. Provide input and adhere to PC hardware and software standards dinate and process incoming IT requests via phone, email, and in-person. Change daily backup tapes and ensure successful backup completion

Thanks for any help.

I recently had a customer who required a ram upgrade and optimization of her PC. After completing the work I contacted the customer and she asked me to call her back in a few days when she got paid. A few days later I called and was forwarded to her voice mail, that was two weeks ago. I call her every other day about picking up her computer but always get the voice mail. My question is how long should I give her until her pc is labeled as abandoned? I figured I would send her a letter by mail and give her 30 days. What do you guys think?

so I plan to take a trip to vegas for thanksgiving with my gf. Seeing that i've never been there before, I would like some suggestions as to what to do and what to see. We are not heavy gamblers, so we dont want to spend a majority of our trip there. not too heavy into the bar scene either. Really, just the touristy stuff. Seeing and experiencing what is unique to vegas.

Plan so far:

Wednesday - First part of the day, fly to vegas. second part of the day - ________
Thursday - _______
Friday - Spend part of the morning black Friday shopping. second part of the day - _______
Saturday: - First part of the morning ________, second part of the day -fly home.

I dont know what to fill in with the blanks.

Couple of thoughts:
- Am I spendng too little time in vegas? On paper, it sounds like I need to spend more time there and maybe fly back on sunday. What do you guys think?
- I want to maximize every day, so I want something to do at all times until bed time.
- Since I"m in vegas already, I might as well experience the different casinos. maybe $20 in each of the major ones. What do you guys recommend?
- What good shows are available?

Hello, I am a student at Boston University. My team and I are working on a project where we have to come up with a new product idea to sell to consumers. Our product idea is an extendable hockey stick for youth players aged 6 to 12. If anyone knows the game at all, youth players purchase sticks and cut it down to size according to the child's height. Children eventually out grow their sticks and parents are forced to purchase a new stick every time he or she grows a few inches. Our product idea can save parents money and insures the child will have the right feel for the stick at all times.

This is not spam or a PSA. Our team just needs help figuring out if this product is marketable or profitable.

Please take our quick survey:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp...ocgQ_3d_3d
The demographic question at the end of the survey is completely optional. If you do not feel comfortable answering your age or your annual income, you do not need to.

Thanks!

Windows XP Pro SP3

It's a pretty decent machine for free. :)

Next I decided it would be cool to hook it up to my 40 inch HD TV. So I went out and bought a wireless keyboard & mouse using the Bestbuy gift card I got two years ago.

Got that set up and set the graphics card to use the TV's 1920 X 1080 native resolution. Works great, except I can't read text on the screen while sitting on the sofa 8 feet away which is the only reason I bought the wireless keyboard & mouse.

Internet Cafe's in Africa are still very important for people who can't afford a computer, connection, etc. I've helped with the creation of a couple of places but have always felt there must be a better way.
With everyone's collaboration, incredible knowledge & experience, I hope to create the best internet cafe possible.

We have very limited funds. We have 10 new though bottom of the range computers.

Our combined knowledge is good but not expert.

We don't require gaming and we will use opensource software running on Windows XP such as OpenOffice, Paint .net.

Bandwidth is very expensive $6 per GB so shaping is important.

Usage/billing must be strictly & easily controllable to avoid staff from being able to cheat the system.

VoIP calls must have bandwidth priority

Here are just a few question that jump to mind...
Can more than one station be created on one computer?
Can some sort of server be used to help reduce bandwidth costs as many people visit the same sites?
Can bandwidth be shaped to ensure VoIP calls are clear and web pages have priority over media such video streaming.

Thank you for your time.

I have never used Ebay before, but I am looking for something and I figured I would try Ebay. I looked around, and I cannot help but feel like everyone is trying to rip me off. Really.

I'm looking to buy a soprano saxophone. I'm not a professional or anything, so a used sax is fine with me (though I have standards on quality, I'll get to that.). I thought "Hey, I'll check out Ebay. Maybe there is some dude out there who is switching instruments or whatever and wants to sell his used sax." So I look up the listings for "soprano saxophone," and there are tons and tons of soprano saxes available. They aren't a common instrument, I was surprised there were so many results. Many of them were for mouthpieces or reeds, but far too many were for full saxophones.

Another thing that was odd was they were all incredibly cheap, but all said "NEW SAXOPHONE! **BEST**" and many had the same exact picture. Sopranos aren't usually cheap, especially when they are new. High quality sopranos easily run $2,000. I look at the details for the listing, and they seem really, really advanced, yet really vague. I mean, there is some serious HTML knowledge behind these descriptions. None of these are "average Joes" selling their used saxophone. I mean, sure, you'll run into a musician with some good HTML skills once in a while, but there is surprising consistency with the level of detail in these descriptions.

In addition, they are incredibly vague. They never offer a serial number, date, country of origin, or even the name of the company that made it. The company logo is always engraved into the bell of the instrument, there is no way that the seller would miss it. It is also among the most important things to know about an instrument before you buy it. There is a big jump from a Yamaha beginner sax and a Selmer beginner sax.

Next, I look at the reviews for these sellers. They never cease to astound me. All of them have 99.6% or greater, each with dozens, even hundreds of reviews. I take a look at them, and they all seem the same. "Excellent shipping! Fast!" "Perfect seller! A+" "I loved it!" "Great communication! AAAAAAA++++++++" "WOULD BUY AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT A+." Only in the few negative reviews do I ever find anything constructive said about the seller, and the negative reviews seem like horror stories compared to the positive ones "My 'new' iPod had scratches on the back" or "I paid and the seller disappeard. Mean and irresponsible." I worry that the majority of the reviews are fake, meant to bump up the buyer's confidence.

Am I being scammed, or can I trust Ebay? I would really like to buy a used saxophone without paying $800, but I don't want to end up with a cheap chinese pile of crap from a scam artist. Am I just paranoid?

What is happening with Juno? Although it's been dialing up the same four New York City numbers I've used for several years, it's suddenly started dialing Guam, Indiana, and Syracuse, NY. When I try to connect with the Web, it will get a NY number after several tries. If I try to get just e-mail it only dials Guam, etc. (I have Windows 2000). I called their $1.95 a minute number for human (?) support and was told that there was "some problem" that would be fixed in three hours. That was three weeks ago.

Nobody seems to know anything at all about Juno, and they have a fake address in New York. Can anyone help?

Four things I hate about Office 2007

I realize some of these are nitpicky, but these are the four main “features” of Office 2007 that frustrate me the most of any changes in Microsoft’s latest office suite.

I realize some of these are nitpicky, but these are the four main “features” of Office 2007 that frustrate me the most of any changes in Microsoft’s latest office suite.

1.	The Ribbon- It’s not so much the whole idea of the ribbon that’s bad, it’s just a few things about it that really should have been thought through a bit better. Take the placement of common tools, for instance. One Example: For years, I’ve been clicking “View -> Header/Footer,” but for some reason it’s now under “Insert.” Why is this? In my mind, the header and footer always exist, I just sometimes elect to leave them empty, thus, I am viewing them to change them, not inserting them. The other thing: Why can’t I customize it? I’m stuck with Microsoft’s very strange layout. I never use styles (usually, my documents only have a few different fonts and sizes, and I can remember them easily enough and apply them throughout the document without the help of styles), so why can’t I eliminate them from the Home tab, and replace them with something I do use? I really don’t mind the ribbon, if only it was set up a bit better and customizable as the toolbars were in the past versions of Office.

2.	Docx Format- Why change the file format with a new version of Office? This creates a lot of confusion amongst users of different versions—many of whom are not tech-savvy enough to know to change it to a doc format upon saving, or to know why the file won’t open. We’ve gotten along with doc files for over 10 years, Microsoft. Why change them to something else? And a four-letter extension…correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought it was always a good idea to stick with three letter extensions as often as possible.

3.	Default Settings- Whoever thought it was a good idea to make default 10pt spacing after paragraphs must have shunned English classes and essays their entire life. Never is it acceptable for one to put a space after a paragraph. …and a default font of Calibri at 11 pt. Why not stick with Times New Roman, a Serif font looks much more professional in my opinion, and Calibri is probably not a font that users of older versions of Office have. There’s other defaults that beg the question “Did they consult anyone about this?” but I won’t list them all and make this longer than I have to.

4.	Print Layout for Everything- Apparently Microsoft thought it was a good idea to make a document you’re editing look exactly like it will when you print it. Don’t understand what I’m talking about—take a table, for example. In Office 2000, when you inserted a table and eliminated the borders you would still have a faint gray line where the borders would be (until you went to print preview). This helped in editing the table enormously. In Office 2007, when you eliminate the borders, they’re gone. You’ve got nothing to work with, so it’s impossible to tell where the table is. The whole point of eliminating the borders is to have some sort of organizational structure visible during editing, but not in the final product. Why eliminate things that help in the design process?

Anyone agree with me or have anything to add? There's other, more minor things, and there are things I like about it, too. I wouldn't trade Outlook 2007 for anything, for example.

I ran a laptop for sale on CraigsList and got this reply. I know it's a scam; but, I am interested in knowing how this scam works, in particular how one could put money into my PayPal account and then in some way profit by getting it back, or maybe not actually putting it there in the first place.

Can someone explain this in detail to me?

I saw a post at digg.com the other day that CBS is going to carry a bout between Fedor and Rogers on Nov. 7, 2009 at 9PM ET.

CBS had mixed reviews last year when they promoted three MMA cards last year under the banner of the now-defunct EliteXC. The first and last events, bolstered by Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano, were unqualified ratings triumphs. The second, void of fighters with crossover appeal, drew poorly. What will happen with the Fedor, the World's Toughest Man?

I sure hope Gina Carano is on the card - she's my fav MMA female fighter.
