I am having difficulty remaining connected to my wireless network. If I am connected for a period of no less than a week, I will eventually lose connection for several days. One strange thing that also happens is that when I do try reconnecting to my network it stays connected for 30 seconds to about 1 minute. Another thing I sometimes notice is after getting disconnected and trying to immediately reconnect I will receive an ip address conflict message. I have looked in my router's setup page and have not found any ip address conflicts. I have also allowed the computer's MAC address in the router. There are 3 other computers connected to the network (not simultaneously) and they have no issues. I am also able to connect to a nearby unencrypted network without any issues. This problem has been occuring for around two or three weeks about 2 weeks after I upgraded from Vista.

Some additional information:
Router: Linksys Wireless N 4 port
Wireless Network : WPA
Wireless Adapter: Gigabyte GN-WP01GS PCI WLAN Card(Turbo)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

I have an Acer 11.6" Aspire One AO751H netbook. I want to upgrade the wireless-G to N. This model takes the half size mini pci-e cards. I just recently purchased the Intel Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 card. Installed it yesterday, booted the computer, and so far so good. It recognized the card right away and the driver installation was successful. The wifi activity light works, the card is recognized, but it is unable to detect any networks. It just flashes that little balloon at the bottom saying "wireless networks unavailable". Try to refresh the network list, and i still get nothing. I tried turning the card off, then on again, but nothing. I checked on the driver in Device Manager, and it says it is functioning properly.

I have the most up-to-date BIOS and I am running 32-bit XP Pro (downgraded from the factory installed VISTA). I was wondering if maybe there was an issue with the antennas? The 5300 card has 3 antenna inputs, but the laptop only has two antennas. I was told on numerous forums that it would still function fine with only two antennas, however. I obtained the most up-to-date driver for the card right from intel's website and it installed without any issues at all. Does anyone have any input on to why this card seems to have installed fine, but cannot detect wireless networks? Should I try an older driver? I know many people have upgraded the wifi in this Aspire Ones, so I can't see it simply being incompatible.

Good morning,

While exploring through my modem's information yesterday, I came across the Security Log with pages of information with Red Alerts for Incoming and Yellow Alerts for Outcoming traffic.

Although I was away from my home most of the afternoon and the computer was turned off, I returned to find more lines of Alert information for Incoming traffic( ?).

Will someone please explain what all this means. I ran several scans: MBAM, SAS, Eset on line and OneCare and found no maleware. Yet these Alerts has me somewhat anxious.

Right. I got a new pc yesterday, and I used a wireless adaptor (TL-321G) which has been used on many other pcs of mine to connect to the same network. At first, I couldn't find my network but could see others, so I had to reset router and restore the settings to factory defaults, then change the SSID, then I could connect to my network. I restart, and it won't connect, but it still lists the connection on the network list (i'm on vista home premium).
I have tried turning off the computer, then resetting the router, turning of the router, turning of the modem. WAIT.

When wiring up modular ethernet jacks for a CAT-5 or CAT-6 cable, should all 8 wires be exactly the same length? If they aren't, will it affect timing and performance?

I've always cut each pair to the exact length it needs to be to reach the press-in slots, so they end up being 4 different lengths.

Also, why are CAT-5 and CAT-6 cables wired differently as far as the color order goes? Is it just so you can tell them apart? Sure makes things confusing.

My husband is trying to play games on the Xbox 360 and PS3 live, but it will boot him from games on the PS3 and wont allow him to join on the Xbox because our NAT status is strict. I'm very computer illiterate but I've been trying to do some research. From what I've read I believe this problem should only occur if you are using a router. Our system is set up so that the modem is plugged into a splitter and runs one ethernet to our computer and another to the Xbox or PS3. Therefor a router is not being used, right? Either way I would like help on trying to fix this problem to setting my NAT status to open. I will respond my best and quickly to any questions! Thanks for any responds!

Hello folks
Im not sure if this problem is networking or windows problem but here goes....
Ever since ive been running vista on a couple machines in my house, ive been noticing my home server is having problems keeping long term connections with my pcs on windows vista. However, on the same lan my older xp computers (one new) work perfectly fine with the home server pc (home server runs xp pro). Ive tried a variety of debugging, googling, and some stuff ive tried were setting ip addresses to static, testing other operating systems by connecting them to the network on a test pc i own and then telling vista to use them but whatever i do i get this kickoff issue with vista. The odd part is that even though this happens when im connected over the wireless network, when i wire the vista pc in, its networking seems just fine. When vista looses the connection it will not be able to find the home server for a few moments yet all other network recources are availible as well as internet and then the home server pc would just pop back onto the network and begin working with vista properly fine.
Any help here would be appreciated.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 using a Broadcom 802.11g adapter to a dLink router. Everything fine until last weekend when the PC started having problems connecting to the router. The router seems to be fine as my laptop can connect everytime wirelessly. When the PC tries to connect wirelessly, sometimes the adapter cannot find any networks, sometimes it can connect to the router but not the internet. Connecting with the ethernet cable however is fine and even the wireless connection works once it has been given a jump-start by being connected using the cable first.

Like most first posters here, I'm frustrated by ny inability to fix this despite having googled this problem most of this week:mad:.

Anyone out there who can help me?

I am having problems with my wireless. We have three computers in the house all connected wirelessly and two nights ago, they all crashed at the same time. we rebooted the router and two out of three connected fine. The third connected but is not receiving. We did alot of troubleshooting with many tips, to no avail.

We have tried:

-Setting a static IP
- We tried a tip that was on another thread where we were instructed to type "netsh winsock reset catalog" >enter ""netsh int ip reset reset.log" > enter > restart computer. nothing changed
-we have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling.
-disabling all firewalls and VP/SPYs
-release and renew ip address. (states it always cannot renew)

I am now at a loss, help?

I'm looking for a simple (preferably portable) program that will allow me to connect use a laptop to connect that's connected to a hardwired or wireless LAN to a router that can then create a new wireless LAN. Many reasons to do this... sometimes I'm in a hotel and can connect my laptop to the hotel internet after logging on, but would then like to "rebroadcast" a wireless LAN so that I can connect wifi Blackberry/iPhone etc to the Internet. Other occassions, like right now, are when I have a weak wireless signal and want to setup a local (stronger) AP for my other devices.

I know ICS would be a good solution, but at least one of the machines I use has had ICS locked down and I'd prefer to have something that I can literally turn on and off by starting a program vs messing with options and config

There used to be a program called pipe-ip (I think) that did this, but I haven't been able to find it.

Thanks, Dev

I recently tweaked my Dell computer by doing a chkdsk run followed up by a boottime defragmentation (diskeeper 10), in order to address performance issues I have had for a long time. Following the boottime defrag, I re-booted, but when the computer re-booted, it said there was no network connection. I went into the control panel to look at the devices, and the device screen was completely blank - i.e., no modem, no nothing. In the lower right part of my screen (taskbar?), the icon showing connectivity is missing.

I thought I could solve the problem by doing a system restore, but when I opened up the system restore window, there were no system restore points except for the reboot I had just done. I did it anyway just for the heck of it, but it didn't change anything.

I also went into the task manager and looked at the processes. I noted that the "teatimer" exe was consuming a huge amount of memory (110,000 kb). This is associated with the Spybot program that runs in the background, which may be causing some of my performance issues, I suspect. I don't know whether that is related to the present issue of no connectivity, or not, but I'm just giving you as much info as I have.

I have a cable connection, and a broadcom modem (don't have model number here).

Help, please.

I just spent the last several days trying to find the solution on this site to getting my wireless connection back. I could not find the solution, so I'm trying this post.

I re-installed Windows XP Home on my Dell Inspiron 700m because the system was getting way too slow to be useful. I did msconfig and turned off what i thought might be safe to turn off, but that only improved performance slightly.
Anyway, after re-installing windows, the system is spunky again, but the previously working wireless no longer seems to work. The Windows Help told me to go to Network Connections and "click the wireless network connection icon". Unfortunately, like the other folks, the icon on my system is missing.

As instructed to other folks, I went to Device Manager and I found that everything under Other Devices had a yellow question mark or exclamation point. I went to Properties on some of these devices and the message said "The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)". I then went to Dell Support to see if I can find the drivers for my wireless modem. I got some files but when i clicked on the Reinstall Driver button, it said it could not find the drivers.

I opened the command line and typed "ipconfig /all" but nothing came up. All it said was "Windows IP Configuration".

So now I'm lost. Not sure what to do next. Check the modems physical connection? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

I've asked Verizon Tech support for help, but this seems to be WAY over their heads... All they say is Uninstall reinstall, repeat.... any Ideas anyone? help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I have an XP machine that is running out of ram, already upgraded once, and I would like to network to my new vista machine and download all the contents.

I know I need to back-up first. Was planning to subscribe to Carbonite. I need a little bit of handholding and clear, experienced advice to get things a-rolling. That is, what sort of problems I might encounter (or how to avoid them), etc.

I need to know in what order to do certain steps, so I don't royally screw something up. I am somewhere between basic and moderately proficient when it comes to computers, leaning more towards basic though.

Perhaps there is a previous post someone could direct me to that has covered this very topic. I did several searches but was not successful. I am not that familiar with this site as I have only posted a few times.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

We currently use a single router connected to our devices, then run coax all over the place so we can retrieve live data from each location. I would love to replace the monstrous coils of wire with a simple wireless network.
We set up and break-down daily at different locations.

Im running windows Vista on my newa laptop and have been using my 2wire wireless modem some sasktel for the last month and its been working great. Yesterday, my connection just stopped working. It still says im connected to my network but my laptop says there is no or limited activity. My Blackberry has wifi and connected to the modem just great. Any ideas? I have been getting new anti-virus latley and that has been screwing with things.

I recieved Kasperky from a friend, tossed that on and it blocked my interweb, took it off and put on a trial of norton. That has been working for the last few days, and now this. I took norton off my computer so im running anti-virusless just so i know i have nothing interfereing.

*Tried plugging an Ethernet cable from the modem to my laptop, still nothing.

I'm trying to network my basement computer (which runs XP) to a laptop upstairs (which runs Vista). I have a Belkin Wireless G Router. The network name is Belkor the Magnificient. It is WEP encrypted.

The computer's were previously networked and worked fine. However, I recently got a new hard drive, installed XP on it and voila back to square one. Both computers are set to the same workgroup, WORKGROUP.

The laptop will connect to the internet through the connection but not recognize the basement computer.

I also ran wireless network setup wizard, put the files on USB, plugged that into the laptop, brought the USB downstairs and got the message that it had been added however I'm still getting nothing.

Suggestions? Thanks for any help :)

Hello, i am having a problem with port 80 and my web servers... Now, let me tell you first, that i am completely new to everything, i have never tried to run a server, and i don't have that much experience, though i can learn fast. That being said here is my situation:
I do not have a registered domain, nor do i want to get one just yet. My ISP has apperantly blocked port 80 a LONG time ago, and since i didn't know that, i tried this. Now i recenlty found this out, and it has crushed my dreams. Well not crushed them, but it would be neat to have a webserver on my comp. Anyways, is there anyway i can configure the server to some other port? I have apache 2.2 running on windows Vista SP 2

I have Verizon and a Toshiba laptop. I have been getting disconnected several times a day for a few mins. at a time. I have made so many calls to Verizon that I know exactly what they're going to tell me. Before we hang up I'm connected again and they say there's no problem on the line. I tell them that they will be hearing from me again in the next day or the next week with the same problem. Now they're telling me it's a problem with the laptop and not Verizon.

I have a Westell 7500 router which is about 2 ft. max away from the computer and even when all the lights are on I still get disconnected from my wireless. I have a splitter on my line. I now keep an ethernet cable near by. I've had 2 tech guys come to the apt. to "fix" the problem but it still persists. I even keep the Verizon connect page (192.168.1.1) on all day to watch the connection go on and off.

So, even though the lights are on on the router and the all the bars are lit up saying I have an "excellent" connection I am going off line. I know others here have had the same problem. Please help! If there's any info I've left out let me know.

I've searched through the forums and haven't found this topic, so here goes...

I have the AT&T 2Wire 2701HG-B Gateway Router, connected with two laptops which can run either wireless or 10/100. I also have a Dell 3010cn Printer that is network capable currently connected to one laptop and shared. I want to put the printer directly on the network, but cannot get the 2701 to acknowledge the printer. Cables are fine as well as the ethernet card on the printer. Its a system "thing" and I'm just stuck. I'm also cheap because I'm NOT going to pay $99.00 to AT&T for some tech support on their end.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to build a server box for my house. I installed windows server 2008 R2. I've got everything up and running but I'm having an issue with the NLB.

I've never used NLB before, and thus far I can't seem to get both onboard NICs to work properly. I currently can configure one cluster, by telling the NLB manager to look at localhost, then choosing one of the NICs. I set the cluster ip to 192.168.1.100 and the NIC ip to 192.168.1.101.

At this point, I can access my server via that new cluster ip. I can ping it fine as well. Now I try to add another host, I type in the ip address of the second NIC. 192.168.1.103. It connect and I can select that NIC to add. I then set the address of this NIC to 192.168.1.102.

The NLB manager refreshes, shows my my cluster and the two NICs. The first NIC works fine, but the second NIC always is misconfigured.

I just can't figure out how to get both NICs to become configured and balanced. I can see the server and move files with one configure NIC and one misconfigured NIC. Also the server cannot access the internet.

Is NLB designed to do this? Everything I read setups up the NLB for 1 NIC public access and 1 NIC private access. I want both NICs to be able to share over my private network and be able to download.

Can anyone help?

My main pc was apparently set to wireless by the verizon installer - I thought he had set it to wired but apparently not. So right now it has a wep security setting. I want to change it and my 2nd pc to wpa. My question is: do I do the primary pc 1st - do I change the wep setting on the adapter through the adapter software, the windows wireless network wizard thing, or the 192.verizon site? All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Thanks in advance for your help!

I need help setting up the connection from my Dell desktop to my Linksys router. I'm clueless with internet connection stuff! I have a ThinkPad that I have a wireless connection on (someone helped me set it up), and now I need to set up the Dell desktop with a wired connection to the same router. Both systems run XP.

You should know that just yesterday I had to delete a partition and reinstall XP on this Dell. I also reinstalled the system software from the Dell disk (Multimedia, Internet software, etc.).

I've tried to use the wizard to connect, but it doesn't seem to see the router. I've unplugged the modem and router and restarted the PC but it hasn't worked. The Dell has an ethernet card, but I can't remember if it had a disk when it was purchased and if I need it to set this up.

I will check this post often, so if you need more info just ask.

Thanks again!

I am having problems add my XP Home PC to my Home network.

the network hardware device does exist.

I did the following for adding a wired Ethernet computer to the network.

In XP I logged on as adminstrator.

Plug the computer into a hub, switch, or router and then turn it on. (If your home has Ethernet wiring and you have a jack in the room where the computer is, you can plug the computer into the Ethernet jack instead.)

Log on to the computer as an administrator.

Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

Click the Computer Name tab, and then click Change.

If the workgroup name is not WORKGROUP, change the name to WORKGROUP, and then click OK.

Note
If you had to change the workgroup name, you will be prompted to restart your computer. After you restart, click Start, and then click My Network Places. In the left pane, under Network Tasks, click View workgroup computers. You should see icons for the other computers that are currently part of your network.

But it does not add.

Hello,
I've struggled all night to find a solution to this problem but I dont see to find the answer. I share a router with my roomates and we both have macbooks. I also have an additional PC.

When I tried accessing certain websites (for example: www.rapidshare.com or my.calendar.net) from the macbooks I get a DNS error:

DNS ERROR - cannot find server.

Also next to the address bar is shows me that "the website does not support identity information". However, it works fine with my PC when I enter the address. I tried flushing the arp cache using the following commands:

sudo arp -d -a and
dscacheutil -flushcache

but the problem persists. In addition, I did a tracert command in my PC to find the IP address. I typed the ip address in the macbook computer and it work perfectly.

First, I thought it was my macbook but the problem is the same in my roommates. Also, I thought (for some reason) I got the adress blocked but it works in my PC.

So I am assuming its my router (DI-2254) but I reset it and nothing. I suspect it has to be with my PS3 that I used when trying to play online but I doubt it.

?? Any solutions ????

Thank you!
