new seagate 500gb 7200----hd
new asus p5n73 -----------moboard
500 watts psu

the problem now friends is....even when i play the oldest games like hulk or the newest like assasins creed 2 at whatever settings whether high or low i get a series of low and high fps alternatively independent of whats is being rendered.

eg : when i play grid at 1440 * 900 and ultra settings i get alternation of 80 fps and then 20 fps for say 20 seconds each even when the car is still or im at options by pressing escape.

only thing i can inform is that all the time cpu is about 80-90% load irrespective of fps in game whereas gpu is 1% load when low fps and 35% load when high fps

ill really appreciate if someone can help

I can't get Halo 2 to work
brand new dell desktop pc, win 7 home premium
I removed the McAfee anti-virus (i use AVG free)

I also removed the preloaded dell software, and Mircosoft live, instant messenger, etc

I picked up a copy of HALO 2 for vista and it installed, i tried to play and get this message:

Live Gaming on Windows failed to initialize. This may be because another
LIVE Gaming on Windows application (such as the Halo 2 dedicated server) is
running on the same machine. Otherwise, reinstalling the game may fix this
problem.

what i have done so far:

- download Windows Live Gaming (3.0) and installed, same message
- uninstalled halo2, and Windows Live Gaming (3.0), reboot pc and reinstall halo2 and Windows Live Gaming (3.0), same message
- uninstalled halo2, and Windows Live Gaming (3.0), ran ccleaner and cleanup, re-booted pc, re-installed halo2, and Windows Live Gaming (1.0) located on halo2 dvd, same message
- downloaded patches for both halo2 and Windows Live Gaming (3.0) and installed, same message

I have done some google searches and i did come across a forum post where someone re-names a few files and got around this problem but i cant find it again.

I currently have avg free 9 running (disabling it did not fix the problem)
I run firefox for a browser
I try to not have other programs running when i don't need them though

halo2 is the first game i have installed
anyone have any advise?

thanks

This one is weird, seems all the problems I have are weird anymore so let's see what happens with this post.

Windows XP SP2 with all updates. 2 gigs of memory and hard drive only has 8 gigs of space used. Checked for spyware/trojans and viruses, all clean.

When spider is opened it will deal the cards at a reality decent speed, not fast and not slow but once in a while it will deal them so fast. Then it will go back to dealing them slow. It will do this when no other programs are opened. It changes from fast to slow and slow to fast for no apparent reason.

Now just playing around and don't ask how I happened to come across this but media player was playing in the background and the games deals fast with it playing. So I closed media player and it deals slow again, open media player and it deals the cards fast again.

So what does media player have to do with the speed spider deals the cards? And what can be done to have it deal them fast all the time without media player being opened.

Seems to me the game should deal at the same speed all the time and why would media player cause it to deal fast when it is opened?

Like I said weird.....

I've realized that the lag is spiked in nature.
Modern Warfare 2 runs beautifully for ~15seconds then it lags for ~5seconds.
Hope this helps

I have had Eve on this computer for a while, and then a couple days ago it stopped allowing me to log on. Kept giving me a "this file has been damaged, modified, or corrupted" error. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it to no avail. Now if I even try to download the file it will kick me over to there "premium download" file and then it will reject the installation after about an hour...

Another issue I think is related is that if you install a game onto it (that is not an mmo), after a couple days it will become corrupted and change to that icon that means it is not recognized.

It runs on Vista and is a really fast computer. Its a pretty customized computer so I can't tell you too much more about it. Has a really good graphics card and all that stuff.

If you can point me in any direction that would help I would appriciate it. I tried looking at forum threads but am not a savvy enough tech person to decipher much of what was written.

I just recently installed W7 and put on COD4. Now when I had the game on Vista, the game would be in full screen no matter the resolution. say 800x600

Now in Window 7 I have the resolution on 800x600 and its in full screen but has a back boarder if that makes sense. like it reaches the top and bottom of the screen but not the side. It is only truly full screen when its on max resolution which is 1440x900.

I'd have it on 1440x900 but my graphics card isn't the best =[ and I'm trying to get the most fps out of the game. So can anyone help with the screen problem?

I have updated my graphics card so no problem there. I have downloaded all the updates for COD4. Windows is up to date, from what Windows updater is saying...

Well, about a week and a half ago I started to encounter issues with my WoW latency spiking to 500+, when it usually sit around 50-150, but my frame rate staying exactly the same. There was simply a 1-2 second pause between me doing something and it actually happening (text, abilities, etc).

So, I started doing a few registry fixes (Nagles, etc), then ran a few utilities to optimize my connection, but nothing stuck. So, I stumbled across a solution previously posted about this where it was the ISP having interleaving enabled and therefore creating the issue. (thread is at: http://forums.techguy.org/games/6888...tency-wow.html) Well, that thread had a guy tracert'ing the WoW server at 12.129.232.115, which is the login server. I did so on my desktop, where I play primarily, and here are the results:

Now, these values are exactly what I'm looking for, and what I'm used to.

So, computer issue or ISP issue?

Here's my suspicion: It's a computer issue via operating system. The laptop is running windows XP, the desktop is on 7. But don't take my opinion to be fact - I'm a hardware junkie, not a connection guy.

So, any thoughts?

I just bought S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl off of Steam last night; I've been wanting to play this game for some time now. I booted it up, it loads all right, and I edited some of the settings to fit me. I changed the graphical settings to max, changed the resolution to 1920x1200, and changed the light to Full Dynamic. The game told me that I would have to restart for the lighting changes to take effect, so I did. When I booted the game back up, all my settings had reverted to default: medium graphics settings, 1024x768 resolution, Static lighting. This continues to occur, and it also sets the difficulty to Master - I haven't even PLAYED the game yet, let alone mastered it.

After restarting a couple times (solving nothing) I decided to screw it and play the game anyway. All the settings were at max except for lighting, which had to remain static. I got about twenty minutes in, using the autosave feature about every 5 minutes, and saving through the menu once. After a battle my character died, and I tried to quickload, but that didn't work. I looked in the save menu and found that NONE of my saves, auto or menu, had actually recorded any info - I had no saves. NOTHING about this game is being preserved on my machine!
I'm the Administrator and UAC is turned off (I know, I'm a bad boy) and none of my other Steam games, or any games, have this problem. STALKER has the latest patch for the downloaded version on it (1.005) and my machine is top of the line (see below or my profile for specs). WTF!? This game is really fun and as I'm learning to be a game designer, I could learn a lot by playing it. I could really use some help here, plzkthx?

Computer Stats:
Vista Ultimate 64-bit, Q9650, 4GB RAM, eVGA nVidia GTX 295, 1.5TB HDD, SB Audigy, Thermaltake XaserVI Case
High-end stuff, if you have any other questions about my rig or dilemma, let me know. Thanks!

Hi - this is not so much a question, as an answer to anyone who wants to run this old - but excellent - game on their Windows 7 system.

After upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, I have been getting Direct X errors and BAD MEM POINTER (Smartheap library) errors when launching the game.

Here's how I got it to work:

I patched the game to version 1.0.42.3 as per the ST website.

I replaced ICCVID.dll Cinepak codec to version 1.10.0.11 as per the XP compatibility solution on the official Starship Titanic website FAQ.

I replaced SH33W32.dll (Smartheap library) with version 4.0.0.0 - you will need to Google it to find a download source - this has become necessary since I upgraded Vista to Windows 7

I right-clicked st.exe and chose Properties-Compatibility. I ticked "Run this program as an administrator" and chose "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows Vista"

Hey presto - it works now!

I hope this is of use to anyone else out there with similar problems.

I'm trying to get Warhammer installed through Wine onto Ubuntu 9.10 with little success. I was able to get warhammer loaded via wine with wine /directories/warhammeronlineinstaller.exe. It did stop when I reached the screen to actually install the application after agreeing to the license. I found a potential fix for the issue here http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...sion&iId=13139 but the second patch which this how-to points users toward is now classified as private and thus cannot be downloaded. After semi-exhaustive searching all of the answers I have found have linked back to this particular how-to and I haven't been able to find that second patch on file sharing websites including rapidshare, filehippo, and whichever site it was the link originally pointed toward. I was just hoping someone knew whereto find that second patch with is named Warhammer Patch 1.1.29. There are some instructions for implementing the patch which I tried to follow having just the first patch. The peculiar issue I ran into there was that the filename under the appropriate location was not found even though it was there, so I assume you need both patch hacks in order for the solution to work. Anywho, thanks in advance!!

My 360 is on the fritz so I've been checking out some older PC games through Steam. I bought the "Fallout Collection" and am playing through the first one but there are display problems. Every now and then, the colors on the screen will change drastically, going to pinks, blues, and teals. I've used to screen shot function in the game during these times, and the shots display no problems, which leads me to think it's something with the monitor/video card. I'd be grateful if anyone can help me fix this, I'd really like to enjoy this game.

Things I've tried, but to no avail:
-Running it in 256 colors
-Steam won't let me run it in compatibility mode.

I have an Inspiron E1505 running XP 32bit.
Vide Card:
Driver: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family
DirectX Driver Name: ialmrnt5.dll
Driver Version: 6.14.10.4446
DirectX Driver Version: 6.14.10.4446
Driver Date: 13 Dec 2005
Desktop Color Depth: 32 bits per pixel
Monitor Refresh Rate: 60 Hz

I recently purchased a ps3 slim, but when I play online I always encounter severe lag and/or frequent game disconnections for every game. But the wifi signal says it is 100%. I have tried wired but it didn't improve the situation.

I have tried port forwarding and putting the ps3 into DMZ, neither helped.

When I contacted my router manufacturer, o2, they said it must be a problem with the ps3 as I have an xbox 360 which is fine online.

I have tried everything and I mean everything. Like:

Disabling media server connections.
Using lower graphics.
Trying a wired connection.
Forwarding ports.
Putting ps3 into DMZ.
Resetting the ps3.

O2 claimed that it isn't a problem with the router as the 360 works fine, help please...

This has happened to me for over a year and I stopped playing a lot some time ago because of it. But now that COD4 MW2 has come out I started again:D. I have checked with numerous softwares to check my computers heat and everything is on about 50 celsius... What happens is that it shuts off immedietly without notice and restarts. My videocard driver are up to date and this PC was built my the local shop. I also play WoW and it hasn't shut down while I was playing that for over 6 months ago.

I am illiterate when it comes to computers; I don't know what a bios is:confused: so please do keep it simple.

Today, it's started restarting so often that it has become unplayable. I'm playing and suddenly my PC will just restart, that's all that happens, I have no idea what's causing it. My CPU core temperatures are all fine, my fan doesn't go crazy, my PC doesn't make any noises....

All other games work fine, I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium (32 bit), 8800 GT, 3 Gigs RAM.

Hello, I have been playing a MMORP called World Of Kung Fu. Recently I started the game client when I entered to the log in screen I got the BSoD(Blue Screen of Death) caused by igxpdx32.dll PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Tech Info:
***STOP; 0X00000050 (0XE3E4E104, 0X00000000,0XBF3F385265, 0X00000001)
*** IGXPDX32.DLL - Address BF3855265 base at BF1D8000, DATE STAMP 460d8270

My Computer Specs are:

Inspiron E1505
Windows XP, Professional (Build 5.1, 2600)
Intel CPU T2300 @ 1.66Ghz (2 CPU's)
1.66GHz.0.99 RAM(1014MB)
Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset (Type GMA950)
SigmaTel Audio
DirectX 9

Computer passed all diagnostic tests
Contains a large library of Microsoft and Non-Microsoft Programs

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game and graphics drivers.
I switched the DEP settings to allow the client and the patcher
I reduced all of the graphic selections in the options

Tech support from the game only suggests the above options.

In most circumstances it would not be a big deal, I would just switch to a new game, but I have quite a bit of time and money involved in this one. I am also a disabled shut-in and have made a lot of "friends" that I can only contact through this game. I do not have any other computers that are capable of running the client, so I do not know if it is a software issue or not, but the game has been running ok until 3 days ago. I do not remember doing anything different or new that could have caused this issue.

Any help or advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I am fairly computer literate so following directions would not be a problem.

Thank you in advance for your advice and guidance,

PS I checked the forum and found only one other thread specifically about this and it was closed after the user was stated that there was nothing in their c:/windows/minidump.
