Good evening.
Earlier today, a friend phoned with a delema... When they try to watch a video that is prerecorded on a web site, it will play for a few seconds then stop...At the same site when the video is being brodcast 'live' there is no problem I have gone to the site and have no problem with it, nor has her neighbor had any trouble with it.
I had her remove and reinstall the Adobe flash player and the Java and she says that hasn't helped.
This 'help' from me is being done by phone as I am in NE and she is in AZ. She is pretty computer savey.
Does anyone here have a suggestion as to what we can try to 'solve' this problem for her.
She is using a HP laptop (older) and has XP installed and is very meticulous about keeping her anti-virus (avast) and anti spyware/malware programs up to date and run weekly.
Thanks guys/gals for what ever you can help.

I hope someone can explain this to me. I just bought a new Samsung 40 inch 120hz flat screen TV.It looks great! I have been using a standard cheapo DVD player from Walmart, a Magnavox with no upconverting or HDMI cable capable or anything, to play back my DVD's on my old TV and they continued to look good even on the new flat screen.

Many of the DVD's that I play are non-HD AVI videos that have been burned using good software (TMPGEnc) onto TDK +R discs. I am content with the Magnavox, but being the tweaker that I am I knew I would a least want to try a more modern DVD player with upconvert capability and an HDMI cable option and I found a reasonable Samsung that I thought would do the trick.

Well to my surprise, the DVD's did not look near as good in the Samsung compared to the Magnavox and that was even with the HDMI cable hooked up. I did try real quick to adjust the HD settings in the Samsung but that did not appear to change anything,(although I may not have done it right) nor did just using the phono plugs instead of the HDMI cable help.

I should mention that I did not try any pre-recorded DVD's during my little "test" and not all of the burned discs looked bad, but a lot of them did.

So I'm stumped as to why this is happening. My first thought was that maybe just certain player brands play back burned DVD's better than others, so I took the Samsung back and will look into this issue more before trying a different brand.

Could it also be that the Magnavox scans at 480p and that when a burned disc is played back in the newer machine it's too much for the video to handle? By the way when I say the video looks bad, it's clear but the colors seem to move around and everything looks a little too expanded or sometimes out of focus.

I'm assuming that this might be a case where these burned discs that I have may only ever be able to be played back on an older machine, and I guess I'm fine with that, but I just trying to get some answers.

Sound plays out of ONE headphone only with certain audio files. Why? Hardware WORKS!

Hi. Didn't put this in Hardware b/c my hardware works perfectly. If it needs
to be moved, though, please do.

I'm a transcriber. I've noticed that with some international audio, sound
only plays out of my LEFT headphone when headphones are plugged
directly into my laptop. I know without question that there is nothing at all
wrong with either the laptop or headphones. 90% of files play through both
headphones, as expected.

When I plug my headphones into the "left" output jack in my USB audio
interface (I use it for home recording), it will spit the audio out to both
headphones. But if I go directly into the computer (or use the
"headphones" jack on the audio interface, actually), I only get sound on
the left side.

Someone else suggested that this is b/c the creator of the audio recorded
it in stereo instead of mono. Okay... but what I need to know is how to
make it so I can plug headphones directly into my laptop's headphone jack
and hear the audio on BOTH sides. (I'd rather not use the audio interface
to do that because I need the USB jack it's occupying for my foot pedal
and mouse!)

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer, as to switching either the audio
to (I guess...?) stereo (if that's the problem), or another way of getting it
to play out of both earphones when they're directly connected to the
computer.

:~)

I am trying to digitalise some VHS tapes and although the picture transfers well, there is no sound. The problem is not in the VCR as this works perfectly when connected to a TV set. I feed the signal from the VCR to the PC using a Scart to 3x RCA cable at the VCR end and a purple breakout cable, supplied with an ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 9200 , connected to the graphics card VidIn socket. The VidOut socket of this card is linked to a Creative SB Audigy card LineIn socket using another supplied ATI cable. The output is viewed onscreen using Ulead VideoStudio v.11. The pictures appear perfectly and can be recorded for further editing but there is no accompanying sound despite the fact that the Ulead thumbnail in the edit line shows a small white loudspeaker, If the audio is split out, the line is smooth without oscillations. I have tried a direct connection between the audio out sockets of the VCR and the breakout cable in case there was a fault in the Scart cable but without success.I have also tried taking a line direct from the VCR audio output to the sound card LineIn socket and still didn't get any sound from my speakers or see any audio via Ulead
The PC sound system works satisfactorily in all other respects. Am I missing something somewhere, for example a software setting ?

I wondered whether you would know of a good safe website which has the codec I need so I can download it. I have been to windows help page but it is pretty useless and they give a warning about downloading codecs from the internet. I use xp windows

I purchesed a conversion box a few years ago for about $200 and never used it even once before I was fool enough to loan it to someone who moved hundreds of miles away who also says now he doesn't have it. It was an ADS Tech box; I don't remember the model.

Now I'm up against the task of buying another and I want some advice on what to choose, how/why to choose and what features/specifications to look for.

I'll be converting some old VHS and Hi8 to a digital format and I understand there are devices that have different rates (megs per minute, I guess), FPS and color depth.

I've seen some cheapies on e-bay for under 20 dollars; but, it seems too cheap to do the job. Surely there are plenty of gotcha's in one that cheap.

I saw this one at ADSTech.com ($50).
http://www.adstech.com/products/USBA...d=USBAV-192-EF

Would it be as good for my limited needs as this one ($90):
http://www.adstechnologies.com/index...&products_id=2

Then there are these, one with and one without software ($180 and $200):
http://www.adstech.com/products/API-...id=API-558-EFS
https://www.adstechnologies.com/inde...&products_id=3

Advice and technical understanding will be appreciated.

When I plug my Ipod Nano to my Dell Dimension 4400 desktop running on XPSP2, via USB, the Ipod battery charges. Then I get a popup reading 'USB device is not recognized' no matter what I do. In the device manager, it reads as an "Unknown Device" and the device status reads "No drivers are installed for this device". I tried to automatically update the drivers, but windows says it has the best driver. I’m able to use my Ipod and listed to all the previous music downloaded. I can’t add new music. Computer has 4 USB 2.0 ports. The ports work fine, I have a printer and an external hardrive connected to it.
I have tried connecting the Ipod to three different computers still does the same. I have re-installed Itunes and ipod reset utility, still no luck.

I bought a new USB cable, still no luck.

I tried the draining the battery task, it still does the same thing.

I would like to restore the ipod but it’s recognized in Itunes. Please help !!!

Any ideas? Thanks

I can't open it in anything I've tried so far. When I google it it only comes up with "how can I lose weight?" adds. :P Anyway, is there a type of file converter I could use to change it to a wav or something? IDK if it matters but I have a Windows XP.

Hello everyone, I seem to be having a problem with either both my DVD drives or my disks I bought. Heres the situation.

I went out and bout a 100-pk of Memorex DVD+R's. Out of the 100pk I used 5 maybe 10 at most. Ive never had a problem with Memorex disks which is why I buy them. Tell now.

I was in the middle of backing up some of my movies I own (with kids you really have no other choice. you now one day its gonna get ruined). I had just finished coping a move the night before bed and when I went to put a fresh blank disk in the next morning to burn, I would get a message that said

"please instert larger media, there isn't enough space on the current media."

I took that media out thinking it was bad and put another disk in and got the same message. It seemed odd to me to get 2 damaged disks so I pulled a random disk from the middle of the spool i got and It too failed. To me that seems really Odd for a random disk in the middle not to work.

Lucky for me, I have 2 computers both with DVD drives in them. I went to the 2nd computer and took the spool of disks and did a random pick near the bottom and got the same error message. At this point I started to think it was the media Im trying to copy tell I windows poped open the "what do you want windows to do with the blank (cd/dvd) When it does that on either computer rather than it saying Blank dvd it says blank cd and explorer thinks its a cd. and has 0 free space out of 0 used.

heres where im lost. Could my entire spool of disks be bad or could both lasers on both dvd drives be shot? Ive never had a problem with this. and hope someone can help me out.

Both drives support DVD+R/+RW/-R/-RW/DL

Hi there,

I returned today to learn the power had been temporarily cut off in my apartment. Now the sound no longer works in my computer. I have an onboard audiocard and a Soundblaster card (pci-slot), and neither work with my speakers. My speakers DO work when I plug them into my roommate's laptop. Everything else in my computer appears fine.

Does it make sense that BOTH cards would be blown? And if my onboard audio was blown, wouldn't it likely affect the rest of my mainboard?

(And of course, "mute" is off)

Thanks for reading,
Jon

Hi their first of all my computer spec:

I have a thermaltake supranoVB1000SWS case, Asus P5KC motherboard, windows 7 ultimate 64bit, Intel Quad core Q6600 CPU, 2GB corsair XMS DDR2 800mhz RAM, 1TB Samsung spinpoint hard-drive, DVD-drive

what it is, I bought my new case ( the thermaltake supranoVB1000SWS) a couple of weeks ago, so obviously I had to swap all my hardware into it from my older case.
Everything worked perfectly in my older case, its when I swapped everything to my new case that I started having problems with my DVD drive.
When I connect the IDE and power cable upto it, and switch my computer on their is no power getting to the drive, well no lights light up, flicker or do anything.
But once i turn my computer off and remove the IDE cable, but leave the power cable in, the DVD drive powers up, the draw opens and closes like normal, it only doesnt come on when the IDE cable is plugged in.

The DVD drive is set to master, this is IDE
My hard-drive is SATA so thats automatically goes to master.

The dvd drive is not detected in the BIOS ( revision 1203)

I have checked the IDE connector on the motherboard its-self and none of the pins or damaged or bent etc, I have even tried a new IDE cablr but the same happens.

Please can you help me thank you.

I have a laptop running Vista Ultimate and a Desktop running Vista 64 Home Premium. I have several networked devices accessing the Media Player's library (on both machines) using UPNP. Both Media Players can play Divx, MP4 videos etc (using ffdshow codecs)on the computer. However my networked devices can only access Divx and MP4 from the laptop (running Vista Ultimate), they cannot play video (other than WMV) from the Home Premium Vista. One device can see the files, but gets an "invalid file type" error when I attempt to play it (even though if I copy that file to the Vista ultimate all devices can see it and play it normally). Even when I use my Laptop to access the media Library on my desktop, MP4 and Divx files do not show up (though the desktop lists all these files in its library and plays them all perfectly). File associations appear to be irrelevant. I can access the files in other ways (SAMBA) fine from both machines, but my Philips TV only supports UPNP.
I have come to the conclusion that there is a difference between Ultimate and Home Premium in relation to the Media Player Library and UPNP - has anybody had a similar problem?:)

Never bothered with burning DVDs but now there's a case where I have to in order to upload it onto the net.

Recorded a TV pro gramme onto the HDD/DVD recorder/player's hard drive and from there burned the edited version on to a DVD. Idea was to download contents onto my PC and from there upload it to youtube and likes.

PC cannot open DVD.

I got a fair idea that it's a formatting issue, i.e. the HDD/DVD recorder/player records in FAT-32 whereas the PC is NTSF.
It obviously works the other way around where the HDD/DVR converts DVDs from the PC into FAT-32 in order to play them.

Is there a way around this without having to get extra equipment.

FYI the PC has no facilities for video input from external (by any cable) so just playing the HDD-PVR/DVD player into the PC isn't feasible right now.

There's no copyright issue involved here, I hasten to add. The TV feature was partly filmed by me using a neighbors camera and given to the local TV station for usage. Neighbor has gone on holiday for the moment, so I can't get hold of the original footage media.

Thanks guys.

I see no screws (didn't remove the serial # sticker if they may be under there?...although it's a small sticker). To pry it open seems scary, as I tried very gently and it seems to not budge, so I didn't want to force it till I did some research. I have a headphone jack issue where it's a bad connection and needs to be held at slight pressure to hear stereo. I'm willing to get in there and solder if I have to, but just don't know how to open it. Thanks.

ok, so first, i do have the 32bit system. i went to the link and i found several different links for the 700 series... ugh! i ended up downloading two different ones because frankly, i am clueless. now they are on my computer in a zip file but it is also a hex file.??? i tried to unzip these things and had no luck. tried with winrar but it isn't working. i get a box that pops up saying i need to find something to open the .hex file. i have no idea what that even means and i can't seem to find anything useful (to me) to figure this out.

i just want to be able to change the music on my player. it shouldnt be this difficult... *pouts* i am very computer dense and last time i had troubles, i came here to TSG for rescue. i am hopeful for that, once again.

thanks for any help you can give me.

I have a sound file in Palm PDB format created in the Palm Voice Memo program. I moved it from the Palm device to the Windows desktop PC. Problem is I cannot find any way to convert this to any format readable by the Windows system.

I moved the file from the Palm's internal memory to its SD card because the Palm Voice Memo application would not allow it to be copied to the SD card so now it is no longer in the Palm's internal memory, neither can it be put back into the Palm's internal memory in any way that the Voice Memo program can recognize it.

If I could get it back into the Palm's Voice Memo program, I could at least play it; but, it is more desirable to just convert it from PDB to WAV or MP3 or any other Windows format.

I've been working on this problem off and on for several weeks and have no solution. I would even be willing to pay someone to do it for me if anyone can.

Hello dudes.
Well, i'll write my entire problem since the begin.

I have a Sony Laptop VGN-AW310J...
Its specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 @ 2.1Ghz
4GB RAM (2 x 2GB)
Blu-ray drive
Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT

Those are the specs u guys need to know.
It came with windows vista, but then i decided to install Windows 7.
Installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits on it.
Everything worked awesome. Had problems with only some drivers, but not much.
Then i found out that i wasn't being able to install the newest display driver.
It was picking up one from windows update...
but i saw it was signed, and tought: "Okay, i won't have any trouble".

Then the trouble started...i wasn't able to play ANY blu-ray discs.
PowerDVD said "incompatible graphics driver".
Cyberlink BD Advisor said everything was okay, 100%.

Then i googled a bit...and found out i needed a modded inf to install the driver.
Got the modded inf and a driver newert than nvidia's site from laptopvideo2go.com

Okay, after doing that got the driver installed.
BD Advisor now says my card and the laptop's display aren't compatible.

I haven't tried a BD-Disc since then, i plan to give the laptop back to my costumer today and pray that it will play blu-ray discs.
My question is...WILL IT PLAY for god's sake ?
I'm considering install Windows XP in order to get things working.

I couldn't expect all those problems.
Now the driver isn't digitally signed, but...its the newest one.
And BD Advisor says it isn't HDCP Compliant...

I really don't know what to think, shall i try other version, or other software who could solve my problem.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the bad-english.

Pablo
As it would take ages to edit the tags individually through Properties can anyone suggest a simple free programme that would allow me to batch edit the Album tags in "My Music"?

Please dont suggest anything like Godfather as it is too complicated for me , even tho I have spent all weekend trying to fathom it out !!!!!

I can't install the latest Realtek High Definition Audio Driver WDM_R236 on a Windows XP Pro Machine. The integrated soundcard is Realtek ALC880.
I also have an ATI video card and the ATI HDMI driver installed. Both devices say that they're working properly however there is no sound device under sounds and audio devices properties. There are two instances of Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers several times and tried many solutions but nothing has worked. I currently don't have sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
1) ImgBurn
2) MagicISO

The live distro I'm trying to burn is SliTaz. It seems pretty amazing and I really want to try it out - I've never burned a live distro my self though. How do I do this? When I'm in ImgBurn I click "Write img file to disc" which I think is the correct option I'm looking for, right? Then when I select the file and do a test mode burn I get an error that says 'Illegal Mode For This Track." Theres nothing illegal about this software or anything - I got it from their website, so I dont know what this means...

Then I have NO IDEA how to even go about burning this in MagicISO.
Can someone please help me?

I first adjusted the volumn in both recording and playback in the device manager under USB Audio Device. It seems to be a strange thing that when I unplugg the microphone I hear microsoft sounds from my speaker. I'm sure if I went to youtube I would hear that. When the microphone is plugged in I get no playback sound. No sound at all from the speakers. I have tested the hardware and it is fine. I've gone to all programs, accessiores, entertainment, sound recorder and tested the microphone with recording and playback movements. But no playback sound, at all. Should I just get a microphone that hooks up to my mic jack, next to my sound jack. I'm really confused on this matter. I've even considered getting a sound card and installing it. "A little of lady of 63 trying to save a dime". It's driving me bananas at this time though. It all started when I got a webcam in order to see my grands on the computer. I'm on the west coast and they are on the east. I'm determined to get this thing right. Please help, anyone. Thanks./

I use Windows Movie Maker all the time. Yes, it's often slow, and it crashes sometimes, but it's the best I got. I made a 6-7 minute long movie, with various movie clips, transitions, titles, effects, etc. I've done this many times before with no unusual problems. Everything on the timeline functions, and the preview plays perfectly. But whenever I go to save Save Movie File, it will go through naming the new movie file, the save location, the size and type of file to save it as, but whenever it gets to actually creating the movie it crashes. It queues up the status bar, it starts at zero percent, the computer is humming away. Then I get this error message:

Application Error - moviemk.exe

The exception unknown software exception (0xc00000fd) occurred in the application at location 0x7c90e8e8).

After that, it closes. Any ideas?
(I have WMM version 2.1.4026.0 for Windows XP)

Hello :)

I podcast a radio show and have been trying to stream my mp3s from WMP11!

I have done so, HOWEVER...

I am unable to make a playlist of over 10,000 MP3s. Either that, or I can make it, but it doesn't load; I haven't checked to see if the file actually has the full 20k mp3s or not.

So anyway, does anyone know why I can't create a playlist of 10,000+ with WMP11?

I have tried saving it as an m3u, and WMP Playlist, but I can't get my entire collection to load!

Any additional information on Windows Media Player PLAYLIST CAPACITY would be invaluable!

PS: I'm running windows 7 Professional 64, WMP11

Thanks, Here's looking forward to learning something
