Graphics Card / New Computer Not Meeting Expectations
Although I know enough to get around, I am far from a computer genious. That is why I had a friend of mine build me a computer that he felt would be acceptable for gaming. Games are working very poorly. Other then the specs (listed below) there are a few factors that may, or may not be relevant.

- According to systemrequirementslab my computer exceeds the reccomnded specs for all games I tested, with the exception of Battlefield 3, where it appears to come far short.

- The games that run extremely lagy (Max Payne 3, Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Future Soilder) seem to run a bit better, sometimes even smoothly after I restart my computer.

- All drivers are up to date, running current DirectX

The guy that built this computer for me says that there must be some problem and says I SHOULD be able to run these games without problems and it is just a matter of ironing something out (probably small) and things will work great. My brother-in-law says that the graphics card is bottom of barrel and likely is connected right and just cant handle these games.

My question is.......who do you think is right? I'm hoping to god after spending over $1k on this computer the answer isnt that the machine cant handle these games.

Listen to your brother in law...he's right.
The GeForce GTX 560 SE is a stripped-down GTX 560 and
won't give you the gaming performance you're expecting.

The key to building a gaming machine is simple....the key is balance.
You can spend $500.00 on a video card and it won't do much if you
use a $50.00 power supply to run it or a $50.00 CPU to feed it.
Your machine has a good CPU and lots of RAM, but only a ~$120.00 video card.

It might sound odd, but the computer will only be as fast as the slowest component.

Suggestions?
My brother in law agreed that the rest of my machine seems to be fine. That the graphics card was what was skimped on. Would you have any suggestions as to what kind of card I might look to replace this with? I'm not opposed to spending some oney to get a machine that will do what I want it to (I was dumb enough to think $1,100 would accomplish that) but I looked at the GeForce GTX 580 or 680 and if I could get away with it, I certainly would rather not spend another $500-600. I dont need the absolute best, but would like to be able to play these games on their intended settings. I really appreciate the help.

A lot depends on your budget....something like a GeForce GTX 670 will
be in the $400.00 price range....performance wise, it's fairly close to
the GeForce GTX 680, but about $100.00 less expensive.
Keep in mind that you will need a quality 500 watt minimum power supply!

The best plan is to do some research and look for some benchmarks
that use your CPU and the video card that you are considering.

Personally, I've never been a fan of running SLI (multiple video cards),
but another option is to consider adding another GeForce GTX 560 SE.
