I just upgraded my old Nvidia 9400 GT with Nvidia Geforce 210. After the upgrade, i tried out some games and found that the fps has considerably dropped, at the same graphic settings. Also, i had installed the latest driver from the nvidia website. Any reasons on why this is happening?



CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93 Ghz
Ram - 3.5 GB

The 210 loses to the 9400 in all of the bench marks that I looked at.

Also:
GeForce 210 : 64 bit memory interface width + memory bandwidth (GB/sec) = 8.0
GeForce 9400 GT : 128 bit memory interface width + + memory bandwidth (GB/sec) = 12.8

Short answer...
the GeForce 210 is a slower video card than the GeForce 9400 GT.

Thanks for the information. I see it was a mistake to get this GPU. Could you recommend me a good GPU for playing games, the conditions being that it is a single slot one and obviously should perform better than my current one (Nvidia 9400 GT)?

If space in the computer case is an issue, you may be limited in what you are able to get.
Even so-called single-slot video cards can have coolers that take up more space than
the one slot that they occupy.

To add to the information that black-wolf has provided, with regards to your budget,
you may have to factor in the cost of a new power supply, depending on what you
have now. I'll assume that you have at least a 300 watt power supply now, as that
would have been required to run your Nvidia 9400 GT.

The power supply is a real issue since I have no idea what my current is, as you say it must be at least 300 watts. As for budget, it will be around 2k - 3k ( in Rupees ), but the prices of cards in India are probably different (even after currency change). Since my PC is pretty old, and was custom made, I don't have a lot of idea about spacing available for cooling system. As for the games I want to play, hard core ones, and my pc runs most games fine on lowest settings ( Batman - Arkham City, Skyrim, Mass Effect 3), but I would like to play on higher graphics settings, so maybe it's best if I wait a few months and get a new pc (with dual slot gpu support).
