Lag spikes on Gtx 550 Ti + low fps
My problem is that certain games that seem to require a lot of processing power like crysis (btw, crysis 2 runs fine?!?!), arma 2, blacklight retribution, etc. run at low fps. The thing is, my system specs are a little sketchy. I have a semi-high-end video card, but also a weak processor:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 215 Processor, AMD64 Family 16 Model 6
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti, 1024 Mb

Obviously, not every game should run at 60 fps maxed out settings with these specs. The thing is, while playing arma 2 for example, I never get above 30 fps and it's almost always around 20-22. I've heard that it's a poorly optimized game and requires a high end processor, so maybe that's just the problem (trying to narrow things down where I can). When I play blacklight, I'll sometimes get 50 fps solid, but depending where I'm looking sometimes it drops to 30-35. So basically games that do tend to lag, only really run a low fps depending what is going on in the game. So what's the bottleneck here? Is that most likely just my processor? Am I just going to have to deal with frequent low fps unless I get a new processor? Hopefully this isn't too silly of a question. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh and 1 more thing, some games I have the RECOMMENDED requirements for according to this tool

Maybe I just need to clean dust from the inside of my PC?

You have a 250 watt PSU, unless you have changed it. It's not enought to run that GPU with much of a load, and may even damage the card if you keep running it.

I figured it was in the specs lol, I actually did upgrade it to a corsair 430 watt. I feel like I already know the answer to my question, which is that I just need a new processor to get better performance. The thing I have a problem with is that some games that should be running "fast" according to the CAN I RUN IT tool are the games that I'm having lag issues with. Sorry if my question seemed pointless at first, hopefully it makes more sense now.

OK, that barely covers it but it does. We don't recommend the Builders Series for gaming computers.
Your CPU is probably holding you back.

I can only really upgrade one or the other, if that. I'm guessing it would be best to worry about the CPU first?

Yes if you can find one. Here is the mobo's site that tells you what CPU's you can use http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ctID=c01701270
