Counter-Strike Dedicated Server
I am trying to run a Counter-Strike dedicated server on my XP computer. And I (think I) have my ports forwarded. In the routers configuration place (192.168.1.1) I forwarded my Counter-Strike port (27015.)

But in the Dedicated Server box it says my IP is 192.168.1.100:27015, which i know is the different computers on a network, how can I get this it's own individual IP, for Dedicated Server and Remote Desktop.

Should I set up a Static IP system in the 192.168.1.1 menu? Last time the internet didn't work on one computer after we tried, but we could probably fix that.

(And how do I connect to a computer inside a network with Remote Desktop when I'm outside the network?)

Really depends on what router brand/model you have. You would want to forward the port to 192.168.1.100 then have people connect to your WAN:27015. That way all data being requested over your WAN IP using port 27015 will be passed through to your PC (192.168.1.100) in which if the game is running, your PC will know what to do with the incoming traffic.

Do you know the specific brand/model of your router?

Just saw the last question...

Are you just trying to be able to mess around with your PC from a remote location? If so, logmein.com is a pretty good site and it's free.. But it's not made for viewing graphics heavily.. So remote gaming is out of the question.. There are other clients to use, most not so router friendly though. TightVNC is nice, when using a modem that is.

Check this guide out for your port forwarding needs.. Of course at the bottom where it says port 80 (Internet Traffic) change that to 27015

Oh, but do I need a static IP for that? Because it is assigned by DHCP now.

Last time we tried it and the internet went out only for this computer. I am meaning to troubleshoot that.

No; 192.168. is a class B (or C [IP ranges, and subnets seems to be what breaks my brain.. But I'm learning!]) private range of IPs. Basically, they are your statics. Just make sure your using something that falls in 192.168.1.2-254.. With what info you've given me already it looks like your router is set up for 192.168.1.100-200.. (Though the ones not listed in DHCP will still work on the network.. But thats a different conversation)

I don't personally play CS: so I don't know if an extra step is needed. As far as the IP forwarding as long as you went through the guide that part is taken care of properly.. I'll see what I can pull up for CS.

It's CS:S right? Or is it a different game?

CS:S

And I've just forwarded the port 27015 on all of the running IPs so whatever IP I have, it would be forwarded. 192.168.1.100-106

See if this page helps you.

Again I don't play CS:S, so this isn't something I've personally ventured in.. I'm more of a BF2 guy.

There is a Pro, and IT Reach version; yes. However, after the trial is up you still can have the "Free" version; complete access to your pc. But no benefits like the others.

Oh, just figured that out. Oh well it's alright just remote desktop on nice. I have an SSH client for file transfer, which was the only other thing that was interesting.
