Thumbs down cdromread - Read STATUS ERROR in NHL96 only
I dont know what has happend to NHL 96 for PC, it has worked for years in win XP for me; now when trying to install for first time on some year, its suddenley generates a error message instead
launch autorun,>and menu launch normaly>install>it trying to launch the installer in DOS-prompt as usual but...

cdrom read - READ STATUS ERROR-ffff8103

on the top of the failed dos-prompt it says [Inactive J:SETUP.exe] (why inactive?)

i have putted all the setup files on the cd in compatibility mode before trying to install
and the game installs and run on another computer with Win 98, so its accually NO problem with the CD
have tested both of my current dvd-drives with the CD inside, i think it points towards thath something is screwed up with my windows installation? it can''t be my dvd-drivers..right? why them should not accept this cd only would be a mystery

any ideas? /thanks in advance

Try IsoBuster. Right-click the CD and choose "Perform Surface Scan" to see if the CD can be read properly in that drive. If not, try a commercial lens cleaner.

Its wery weird, in my first cd-drive with the disc it finds

Number of errors encountered on the disc : 21432

if use my seconday cd-drive instead there are no errors at all

hovewer! it doesnt seem to matter cause it still generate thath same error message even if i try to install from the 'healthy' drive...whats up?

perhaps it shows wrong results in ISO buster..and both drives need to have a commercial lens cleaner inside themself
but isnt it confusing how it only would affect NHL96 and no other game?

(Edit: I have a lens cleaner, and i have driven it now, but it didnt help at all unfort)

It could be the drive itself, or just some problem between that particualr drive and the format of the CD.

Take a look for firmware updates for the drive and re-program it.

If you don't know about these, give us the full make and model of your drive.

Til this date i dont even have heard thath you can firmware update a 'cd'-driver, surley thei both are un-patched then, i can't get any name/model out of the two drivers..but possible on a computer-language like

HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B

and

_NEC DVD-RW ND355OA

driver version on both are 5.1.2535.0
Which fits home at 2001-07-01

is this enought info? cant find anything moore..have used Aida 32

Something that old, I would have thought it used DOS in itself. Did you use DOSBOX before when you installed it on Windows XP?

I allways used XP before on it without problems..hm if i should try DOS-box i guess i must copy whole folder on CD to harddrive, and lay it in my game folder thath is autosett to just use command
for example

CD Aladdin/enter
Aladdin/enter
START

but i have a feeling this will be harder..cause its on 500 Mb, should'nt i moore write 'Install' in dosbox, i dont even know if i should wrigght 'CD install' or SETUP..ore 10 other bizzare alternatives i can see ahead of me, im used to not drive dosbox from CD, whats the case here?

You don't need to copy the CD, with the right configuration DOS-BOX will see the CD.

you need to mount the cd-rom drive.

MOUNT D D:\ -T cdrom

Note that D is whatever drive letter you want to give it. D:\ is your actual cd drive. If it's different on your machine, change it to that. The -T cdrom tells DOSBOX that the drive mounting is a CD drive. Note that cdrom is case sensitive.

When you mount it to a drive letter, then you can do the install.
