Running 2 IPs from Same System, Possible?
I play a text-based game online (the game has its own client, its not web-based) where multiple characters can be played simultaneously, each in their own window. However, the game was recently changed to allow only 1 character online per IP.

Now, I have 2 computers.. so I can still play the game with 2 characters simultaneously, but it is quite a burden having to use 2 computers, jumping back and forth between the 2.

Many people openly play multiple characters at once with multiple computers and they are allowed, so Im assuming that using this method would be allowed as well, if it is possible:

I was wondering if there was any possible way for one computer to use 2 (or more) IPs at once or otherwise 'trick' the server running the game into allowing me to bypass the IP check that only allows one character?

Would there be a program or settings I could use, or would it be dependent on certain hardware (if its even possible)?

Thanks in advance

We do not assist in helping in bypassing the server's security measures, as it is clear they changed it for good reasons, ie to prevent cheating.

Anyways it would not work as I assume you have a router where your computers are connected. When you connect to the game server, the game server will see your Public IP Address which the router has.

In denying assistance, can I assume that it is in some way possible?

Anyways, it was actually put in to assist bandwith issues, as theyve stated on their forums. Its just a small, privately owned game ran by a couple of amateur programmers and they are very indifferent to any sort of ToS. The administrators of the game do not actively oppose playing multiple characters as cheating, as there are many who already openly do so- and they are allowed to.

but apparently, its either a well-kept trade secret.. or.. theres alot people who have 2,4,8+ computers in their homes :/

I would certainly not want do something that might get me banned from my game, I just want to even the playing field for myself

Not saying it's impossible, just really not worth the cheating

Anyways like I said, you will not be able to do this with your current setup.

Well you could simply edit the proxy settings on the game that i am sure it should have and have it redirected to some free web proxy that offers anonymous surfing and bingo..different ip for each client. you may have to install two separate copies of the software to individually configure connection settings.
Other option that may be possible is to spoof your ip but it is very complicated procedure and not to mention illegal.
try it and let us know [for Knowledge Sake ]

Now we're getting somewhere

How would I go about finding the client's proxy settings? Would it be within the files installed on my computer?

as far as i remember all clients have some settings about how to connect to the net where you can specify proxy details also the port as to which it can use to bypass firewall etc.
change settings there.
if that is not possible but you can change the connection port, another option would be to connect one client from your port directly and to forward the second port connection to the web proxy via fire wall.
gimme some more details about client configuration and we will figure it out(hopefully)

I'm going to close this one. Those restrictions are there for a reason, and we don't help bypassing site restrictions here.

violentMagician, you're on your second strike already with the P2P stuff, I think you're really working hard for an early exit from membership at TSG. I'm getting tired of seeing you ignore the site rules. Both of you might want to take another look at them. TSG Rules

Actually, that's strike 3. The poster brings nothing to this site. I've disabled his account.
