The Lag Returns! Bigger! Badder! DEADLIER!
Hey,short time recently seen.

Earlier this year (about a month ago), I came to you guys for help, and within a week I had several people agreeing on what my problem was, and to my suprise: ta-da! it worked! I was really impressed!

So naturally, as a deer to a familiar pasture, I've wandered back seeking the same help.

The lag I had before was an intruiging one, indeed. it seemed like any lag that could be fixed by cleaning up my harddrive and doing a system restore, wrong-o, additional memory fixed the problem, and it has been running smooth since.

Sort of.

I play Wow, I think its a great game, but occasionally my character will continue to run in the direction or run around aimlessly with reckless abandon for hazards and with zero control. Often my mouse will disappear aswell. When it does this, my framerate will remain running smoothly, but I lose control of my character for a short while, often leading to a rather embarrassing death or raid wipe.

As usual, here's a li'l picture showing what I mean in a visual manner:

Its alot like my keyboard lags and over-exaggerates (and slows) all commands, even using skills. when this happens, I resort to playing with just my mouse, which is about as easy as leaping the grand canyon with a swell pair of trampoline shoes, especially in a raid or when im trying to deadify (<---new word!) a few battleground vermin.

I could really use some help with this one, My comp cant take anymore ram! any ideas?

Do you have a wireless keyboard and/or mouse?

Had this problem a lot when I was playing City of Heroes. The character just goes crazy and can't fully control him. This is especially bad when you're flying.

I think we fixed it by turning down the sound quality, or something unrelated like that.

I have a wireless mouse. keyboard is integrated. I tried turning sound and video quality to a level that is similar to the original starfox. still no good.

Hm...

Try a different keyboard. Do you drink sticky stuff very often (coke, soda pop in general)? Any sort of spill can do this.

If you're skilled with the screwdriver, and you've paid proper homage to the gods of memory, you can take apart the keyboard and look for problem areas.

Hm...

You could also try going into the device manager, and uninstalling your keyboard's drivers, and then reinstalling them. Never done that before, but it could be the issue.

Also: Wonderful illustration. You need to ask questions more often

Yeah, I plugged in my old comp's keyboard a while back and it persisted, which made me pretty grumpy. and I really try to avoid drinking and eating around my laptop, specifically for that reason (im a bit of a klutz). I just reinstalled my drivers for my keyboard and processor (which for some weird reason really messed up my resolution) and for a while i thought that fixed it, but then it popped back up, which sent me into a violent rage, and i bit all the erasers off of my pencils.

as for my drawings, ty! i had a couple compliments on drawings from my last post ;D only takes like 5 mins to make em, and considering that my laptop seems to be internally falling apart on me (for reasons i cannot seem to grasp) i may have many more questions in the future :P

Sounds like the problem I've had a couple of times in crysis (it doesn't really bother me as it almost never happends). The problem occurs when the connection to the server is lost.

When this happends for you, does the other players run around or do they just run stright forward?

It seems to just run in the direction I last commanded. If I run foreward, i go foreward and keep going long after ive removed my finger from 'w'. and its the same with if i just tap 'a' or 'd' to go left or right, it will spin in a circle.

Wow, yeah, this is precisely the problem I had with City of Heroes. That'd be even more frustrating in WoW! I'd smash my keyboard (A Logitech G15 no less) if that happened, garr.

It's got to be something weird. Let me get you the specs for the system this occured on...

2.8GHz P4
1GB DDR (2x512)
PC 256MB ATI (not sure of model)
500GB IDE, 60GB IDE
Onboard everything except there was an extra network card and DVD-R/W

Anything like that fit your computer? That's all I've got to go on..

Hmmm..... a few of those look familiar, but a couple are like gibberish to me (DDR? dance dance revolution? I'm not very good at that game...)

anyhoo, It seems the important stuff matches yours (like the PC 256mb ATI), so I'm guessing that my bad luck hath strickenith again and this is another internal thing that will require me to empty my wallet and sacrifice a virgin to the gods in order to set it straight without hamstringing a whole Acer assembly line while screaming " WHO PWND ME!?"

rants like that give me gas.

Thx so far, its a persistant *******... I tried turning off catalyst control center and that made it last a little longer before it acted up. Any more ideas? I may be whittling it down little by little, I could use all the advice I can get.

Hi there climhazzard,

I think i know what you talking about, i have the exact same thing happening to all my games (eg hitman, worms,stalker...) am playing hitman and 47 keeps walking or running in the same direction is frustrating, ambiant sounds in background also detereiates and loops when it happens.and becomes unplayable.

have tried reverting to earler drivers for my 256 ati radion 9800 but still no luck, i have a labtec wireless keyboard too but, am quite sure its not that though i will test it out some time and check batteries now its been mentiond.

I dunno what I did but it's gone!

I re-installed CS:S and it ran fine, and now WoW does too!

I kinda feel guilty though not figuring out what I did in that i can't help the people who still have this. It's weird, I re-installed it, and it works fine, but when i had CS:S uninstalled I had that weird lag, that must mean one thing:

Maybe STEAM isn't completely useless afterall!!!

thanks for the help guys!
