Solved: microsoft error message on installation
Hi, I am trying to install Crystal Key 2. It installs ok, but when I come to play it, I get an error message from Microsoft saying there is a problem and I should send an error message. I do not send the message, and the games closes. I have all the Myst games and others in the same catagory. They all play. I am running windows xp professional. I have all the right hardware. Please help.

Try running the game in compatibility mode for win 98 or ME. Right click on the shortcut for the game and go to properties. Click on the compatibility tab in the dialog box that comes up. There should be a check box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:". Mark it and then select one of the two above suggestions from the drop-down box right below it. Click ok and try running the game. Come back here with the results.

Thank you iwassnow. I tried that, I still get a black screen with a window sayin, CK2 has encountered a problem and will shut down. On the bottom of the window it says 'send error report. don't send' I click on don't send, and I am taken back to my desk top.

Yes I have twice, once with a clean boot. I think there must be something wrong with the game CD.

Check for scratches on the top of the CD. Deep scratches on the upper surface can cause permanant data damage and render a disk unfixable. If there are any on the reading side, then you can generally fix the smaller ones with a disc fixer.

Thank you. Before I sent the disc back, I went to the web site for this game. There is a patch. I downloaded the patch and the game works fine. I should have thought of that in the first place. Thank you for all your help. Good luck with your A+.
