Cool Video Card Question
Hi Y'all
New guy here and I really appreciate this tech forum.
My question is this - I have a Sony Vaio that was given to me by my daughter and I would like to play a particular PC Game on it.

The thing is that the machine meets all the game's spec requirments except that I can't figure out if my Video card does. To wit - the game calls for a GeoForce 2 or compatibile and the Sony has a SIS 650_651_750 CARD. Can anyone tell me if this card is compatible and/or what memory it has or doesn't?

Thanks much for any help.

Sounds like an older game, so you might be in luck.

Can you tell us the name of the game?

Also, you can go to this site:

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/

to check your system for compatibility with a lot of different games. It will tell you if you will be able to run them, and if not, which components are not compatible.

Thanks for the quick reply Jones.
It's actually a pretty new game but it might be the newest version of an old one. In any case, it's called Carriers at War (by Matrix) and it looks pretty graphics heavy. And so I can imagine that a geoforce card might be needed. But as I said, not only am I trying to find out if the SIS 650_651_740 card would be compatible, I would also like to know how much mem it has since the rest of my specs would be more than able to run the game ( Pent 4CPU, 1.80GHZ, and 480MB RAM).

BTW, the game isn't listed in that compatiblity link.

Regards,
___Jim R.

Just checked out the game here

http://www.matrixgames.com/products/...emRequirements

and it looks like a basic 2-d strategy game. Nothing too 'graphically intense' here. I would expect you'd be able to play the game quite well on your computer.

The only thing you might need to increase is your RAM, since your video memory is shared with your system memory. 480mb is not very much memory. Increasing to 512mb (1gb would be best) would greatly improve your system.

Thanks again for the input. I tend to agree with you but at 50 and some odd bucks for the game, I'm hesitant to take a chance.
OTOH, I'll check out ebay for a used one.

Cheers,
JimR
