Unhappy Solved: I really need some help here.
I am new here.

But I desperately need some help with a video game that I have had problems with since I first bought it.

Sims The Complete collection.

When I first bought this game and installed it, it had installed just fine. But when I started up the game this happened.

First the EA logo passed up no problem, but then I got up to the splash screen. First it loaded "interpreting family values", yadda, yadda, yadda.

Then abruptly the program crashes and it goes back to my desktop.
I re-install it like 5 time.
Still no luck. Cannot get past the splash screen.

Then I decided to do a system restore. It worked and the game ran fine.

Later on I had un-installed the game. Today, I decided to re-install it again.

I install it no problem.
I run it, it reaches the splash screen, it crashes back to my desktop.
I do a system restore. No luck.
I do three more. Again, no luck.

Please I need a solution to this problem.
I really hope this does not go unnoticed.

It's possible your gfx card can't handle the game or you need to update your drivers.

Well, all my graphics cards are up to date. I have ran the game before perfectly so I don't see any problem with the card. But now when I re-install it, it crashes once more.

Try turning down all visual settings in the game to low.

If it works, make minimal increases to the game.

If it doesnt work, im not sure

How much memory are you running? What other programs are running at the same time?Try turning off AV,firewall, and all antispyware while gaming to free up resources. .

Oh crap. Even though I did stop all the processes of all my antivirus programs, Sims still crashes at the splash screen. Plus when I tried to access my firewall settings by going to the security center, a program called rundll32.exe had an application error. I deleted the file using search, still didn't work and rundll32.exe again had an application error. WHAT THE HELL DO I DO. I am really pissed.

If you own a legitimate copy of the game, go to EA's website and download the latest patch for the game.

An alternative to this, is to patch the game to version 1.91, and to try this no cd/fixed exe located here:

This is most likley not Anti-Virus or Firewall related...

I suggest you delete all the game files after the game has been un-installed. That is browse to C:/Program Files/EA Games/ and delete any sims 2 install folder that might be there.

Looking at those PC specs
Compaq Presario
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
System Memory:512 MB
Display Memory:256 MB
Nvidia GeForce 6200
I'd say your PC isn't the most powerfull going around. Sims 2 likes to have more RAM to run. The Sims 2 was released in a time when the geForce 7xxx series was all the rage.

I think that your PC hardware could be another issue.

Other than that there are still more things that could be causing a problem such as:
  • Software conflict on current OS
  • Damaged disc resulting in corrupt files
  • Bad drivers
  • Lack of hard drive space
  • Faulty hardware
