Question Solved: Can't Run Game
Hi,

When I try 2 run a game I get the following white message on a black screen.

Available Memory = 574720b There is not enough memory 2 run "Red Baron" You need at least 583680b

I have a puter with 4g RAM. Any1 have any idea what the 'Available Memory = 574720b' is or how 2 change it.

What are the PC specs

How much memory is in the PC

To see press and hold down Windows Logo key + Pause Break key together
At the bottom of the new screen you will see amount of Ram.

It shows 2048MG of RAM. I believe I installed 4G but perhaps only the computer is using only half of that.

This a desktop or laptop....do you know what Video card it has?

Do you have a make and model of your PC.......I think it is more to do with the video card memory

I have had this game about 10 years and I have had the same error message on three computers that I have tried it on. I did have the problem resolved on a previous computer but I can't remember the solution.

The memory quoted in the error message does not refer to RAM and I don't know what it refers 2.

I have a desktop and Windows XP Home. I can run the program in the DOS simulator but there is no sound and the joystick does not work. I remember I had the program working under windows once, on one of my computers but I can't remember what I did to get it working now.

Well you could try raising your Virtual memory...but I think there is a file in the game you may have to adjust.

If it is the 1990 release, you need DOSBOX to run it. It's a DOS game and will not run in a windows xp environment.

Talking Working with Dos Box
Yes Indeed I now have the program working with Dos Box using the direction arrows instead of the joystick. It states in the documentation that it is a Dos program which works under Windows. I am sure I had the program working under Windows 98 or 95. I suspect from an earlier post that you could use an expanded memory under those 2 systems but with XP home you can not get an expanded memory.

If you believe that you have 4GB installed then something is not right. It should say the total amount, not available amount.

Windows 95/98 (and I believe Windows Me) had MS-DOS as an operating system behind it, so it would have worked beside them. From Windows 2000 onwards, it was not included.

I would assume it would have joystick control, but will need some editing of the file to initialize it. That would be one for the DOSBOX team to answer.

I finally got the program running perfectly with DOSBOX - tx
