Unhappy BF2 Punk Buster Error
Hey there

I have just installed Battlefield 2 and all of the expansions.

I attempted to join a game but have been repeatedly confronted with this error:

>Punkbuster kicked Player 'SCOTTM1992' (for 0 minutes) . . .
>RESTRICTION: Service Communication Failure:
>PnkBstrA.exe

This happens on all servers that i have tried and i cant join the game without the error appearing and forcefully closing my connection to that server.

Please help me I really want to play
Thanks
Scott

P.S. I have attatched an image of the error

Make sure your firewall is not blocking Punkbuster A or B

Is windows firewall enabled? If so you may have to allow punkbuster A and B

Have you got the latest patch? If not, try selecting Same Version when you look in the Multiplayer options.

Also, there is a manual way to update punkbuster, but once again, my companies website has blocked the page, so I can't see. Hate being at work

Its in the link that Who's Me has posted. Can check when I'm home.

I would tend to agree with Who's Me and eddie5659.

The error is indicating that PunkBusterA can not communicate, the most likely cause of this is that your firewall is blocking it. Quick and dirty test is to disable your firewall temporarily and see if you get the error, although its probably just as easy to ensure both PunkBusterA and PunkBusterB are allowed net access. The fact you can get into the setup screens and select a server to join etc. but you get the error when you join the server would also support this.

Thanks for the help people but it hasnt worked sadly

I have tried automatically + manually updating Punkbuster

And i have allowed PnkBstrA + PnkBstrB through my firewall

I then turned off firewall and turned off A/V.

Atempted to join BF2 server with 'same version only' box crossed

Got same error

Please Help if possible, its annoying me soooo much !!!
Thanks
Scott

Are you starting the game as an Admin, as you're on Vista?

Are these servers you're accessing on the new 1.5 patch, or the older 1.41 patch?

Can look more at home, all gaming sites are disabled at work

Sorry, no email reply

Looking at the screenshot, its an unranked server you were looking at. Have you tried ranked? Also, which version patch have you installed?

Are you trying to join servers via the Multiplayer button, as in the list, or using that icon on your Desktop to connect to a random server?

Also, I would set your settings up so that searching is easier. You can see them on your screenshot, bottom left.

Make sure Punkbuster box is Ticked.
Also, some unranked servers may use mods, so many people tick Ranked and it helps reduce that problem.

Go to your task manager and look at your process list. Are any punkbuster processes running?
