Help me please
Could someone try to help me with why my computer lags on online games? I have a HP Pavillion 573 with 1.5 GB of RAM, 68 GB of memory and all my online games lag. Its not viruses or anything b/c I recently reformatted my hard drive.... Before I did that when I would play a game for a while my computer would either restart itself, or it would go to blue screen and say irql_not_less_or_equal
My computer also gets very hot so I opened it up and cleaned it out....I also have only used 58GB of the memory so its not lack of space...I have windows xp
Thanks in advance!
Also speedfan has my temps at:
GPU:57c
Temp1:75c
Temp2:12c
Temp3:63c
HD0:49c

Your computer seems to be overheating... Take a can of compressed of air or an air compressor, take your computer outside and blow away all the dust you can find inside it, test if you're BSODing less frequently and have less lag...

Your RAM amount has nothing to do with your CPU usage... Did you clean the computer?

Uninstall Java next, download the latest plugin and reinstall..
Also make sure you have the correct drivers for all your hardware... When you reformatted, did you first install the motherboard chipset drivers, then go on with video, audio, LAN, etc drivers?

It might take days because you are using 58 of our 68 GB of HD space but try d/l mydefrag. Run that under the Monthly Optimization.

Also, you said you cleaned it out. Does the machine shut down any longer? If the PC is clean then it sounds like there is not good heat transfer between your heatsink and CPU. Find/purchase some Artic Silver and reseat your heatsink ontop of your processor. How many fans do you have including the CPU fan? where are they located? what is their airflow direction (example: how many blowing in vs out)

Well, HP doesn't offer chipset drivers so I guess you won't be installing them...
75 is pretty critical with such low loads... Reseat the CPU heatsink like drew suggested..

Logically three would be fine. However you are only using 2 fans. This to me would mean shutdowns. How hot is it in the room? Is the PC in an enclosed cabinet? You may want to think of buying 1 extra OUT fan if your case allows for it.

Here are your steps of action:
1. Go buy a good quality Power Supply. I like to shop at newegg.com they have great reviews of their products.
2. While buying the PS, pick up some Arctic Silver paste for 5 bucks.
3. Shutdown and unplug ALL cables to the PC.
4. Open the case and remove the PS. Remove the Heat Sink, use tissues to remove the majority of the old paste. Follow that up with some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball to remove any remaining paste. The idea is to get the bottom of the heat sink and the top of the processor as clean as possible. Don’t SOAK the cotton ball as you don’t want any excess running down into the contact pins of the proc. ( If you a have a female in the house, ask her for some of the cotton pads she uses to remove makeup. Those work AWESOME!)
5. Using the Arctic Silver, apply a dime sized amount onto the center of the processor.
6. Reconnect the Heat Sink.
7. Install brand new Power Supply.
8. Wait 6 -24 hours to allow the evaporation of the excess rubbing alcohol.
9. Plug PC up and turn it on.
10. Let us know the results.
