Exclamation Battlefield 1942 and Expansions Out of Range
When I turn on Battlefield 1942 the screen comes out black and says Out of Range. I can still here the music but I cannot see the image. I have all the requirements for the game and Battlefield Vietnam works fine but not 1942 and expansions. I have a screen resolution of 800 by 600 Pixels, color quality of Highest (32 bit), and a screen refresh rate of 57 Hertz and I can not go any lower without my screen going black and doing the out of range thing. I have un-installed it and re-installed it again and it still does not work. I have read the FAQ fully and I have checked out everything the FAQ says could cause this problem at the EA Games Support site. If you have a reason/cause for this problem and or a answer to it please respond.

TY for reading.

Note: I have emailed them (about 4 days ago) with no response, and posted on EA forum (1-2 days ago) with no response this is my alternative and I hope someone here can help me. I have also edited the shortcut to Battlefield 1942 making it say Run in 640 x 480 screen Resolution if I should of not of done this although in the FAQ I should have tell me. If you need the Dxdiag details or it in hijackthis form I have them ready.

(I am VERY frustrated because I can not seem to find a reason for the problem...)

I think its to do with your screen resolution, below is a list it will work with ....

Resolution Supported
1280 x 800 (16:10) N
1440 x 900 (16:10) N
1680 x 1050 (16:10) N
1920 x 1200 (16:10) N
2560 x 1600 (16:10) -
1024 x 576 (16:9) -
1366 x 768 (16:9) N
1920 x 1080 (16:9) N
2560 x 1021 (?) N

This was taken from its own site, and yours is not mentioned .....

My Monitor can not support many of the numbers you said. Here are the one's it can support that still allow for my screen to be readable:
800 by 600 pixels
1024 by 768 pixels
1152 by 864 pixels
1280 by 960 pixels
1280 by 1024 pixels
Anything above these (or one's I skipped) either mess up the screen (fuzzy, stretched, lined, etc) or say Out of Range.

(If it ends up being I can't solve the problem with the Monitor I have it's about time I got a new one anyways. So replacing it is a option but only a last resort.)

Monitor Name:

ViewSonic VG750

Exclamation Continuing to need help...
It does not work on any screen Resolution for my screen when I change them. I am beginning to think it may be something else or the Monitor itself. Please someone help me, EA Games just responded to my email but they didn't have a current answer so I'm still in need of help.

I found this below on a site about the game ...

Launch Issues: The most common problem with BF2 is that the game crashes to desktop or goes to a black screen when you first launch it. The reason for this is either incompatible hardware (make sure you meet all of the minimum specs for the game), or more usually the fact that you're not running at the default refresh rate of 60Hz. By default the game tries to launch at 800x600@60Hz initially, so your system must be able to run that same resolution and refresh rate, otherwise the game will abort. If you are using any other refresh rate, or a refresh rate override program/method, disable it (e.g. if you're using Refresh Force, click the 'Restore Original Settings' button and apply) or set it back to 60Hz for both 800x600 and your chosen gaming resolution. Alternatively, see the Advanced Tweaking section of the guide for details on how to set a different startup resolution, in case your graphics card/monitor simply cannot do 800x600@60Hz resolution. Once you've got the game running, you can then change the resolution to suit your taste in the in-game settings, and importantly you can select a higher refresh rate. Then you can reapply any refresh rate override and the game will launch without any problems. To set a non-standard resolution see the Advanced Tweaking section.

It was on this site http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html there are 7 pages about the game here, maybe it will help you .....

Yes but that's for Battlefield 2 I'm talking about Battlefield 1942. I tried it and nothing changed. In fact change it to 60 hertz was the very first thing I did.

Sorry, sorry I posted the wrong one here below is a fix that worked for someone else ...

-Goto:
%programfiles%\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\

-Open VideoDefault.con with notepad and edit the line that reads:
renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1

-Change the 1 to 0 and all should be fine when you restart the game.

If that doesn't work then it seems that the simple answer is your monitor can't cope with the refresh rates bf1942 wants to run at.

It was already at 1... I tried that before too... And I don't think the problem is the monitor fully because It should work. It has to be a combination of something or a problem I am overlooking... I still need suggestions maybe some others If anyone can find anything.

EA is responding finally but so far there a couple steps behind.
