Unhappy Problems with playing ps3 online, please help.
I recently purchased a ps3 slim, but when I play online I always encounter severe lag and/or frequent game disconnections for every game. But the wifi signal says it is 100%. I have tried wired but it didn't improve the situation.

I have tried port forwarding and putting the ps3 into DMZ, neither helped.

When I contacted my router manufacturer, o2, they said it must be a problem with the ps3 as I have an xbox 360 which is fine online.

I have tried everything and I mean everything. Like:

Disabling media server connections.
Using lower graphics.
Trying a wired connection.
Forwarding ports.
Putting ps3 into DMZ.
Resetting the ps3.

O2 claimed that it isn't a problem with the router as the 360 works fine, help please...

Can you give some examples of the games you are playing? If the games you're referring too are player hosted, it could simply be that you are struggling to find a good host to connect to(whether it be location or connection).

You're location could also be a factor. I'm not entirely sure how the PSN works in relation to different areas in the world.

Or it could be a router compatibility issue. It's always worth it to try it on another router just to rule it out. Pick up a cheapy or borrow a friends.

The fact you used a wired connection and still lagged suggests the PS3 is the issue... was any other devices connected to the router on at the time?

Also what type of connection do you have (dsl/cable etc)

With PSN I believe it goes to a server for the network (users etc)

Well I am in Birmingham, UK.

I am using ethernet cables.

Usually there are other devices connected at the same time:
Ps3 connected wirelessly
Computer connected wirelessly
Xbox 360 connected wired
Computer connected wired.

Although, even when I try using the ps3 only, it makes no difference.

The games which it affects mainly are gta iv, where in the game players are invisible to me, but visible to everyone else. And the frequent disconnections.

And Fifa 10, where, when I am chosing a team to play with online, it always freezes and I cannot change my team or press ready, and then either me or the other person will quit. When I try again, the same thing happens again.

I have recently moved house, but only down a couple streets.

By the way, I was thinking of buying Uncharted 2. And when I play online, though, will I still have the same problem?

Try using the Playstation Network Store and the Internet Browser and see how that fares.

You didn't mention if you have issues when you are playing single player mode games.

Also see if you can update your system software. If the PS3 can't do it with the internet connection, use a thumbdrive/external drive to do it.

You may still have the problem, since this issue may be with the PS3. As I said before, this does sound like the PS3 is the problem.

I meant browsing on the PS3 itself, unless thats what you meant...

but since it's new I would exchange it for a new one.... if a new one does the same thing, then it may be your internet provider having issues with that PS3.

Have you tried playing offline to see if it freezes there too?

sounds like a bad network device within the system. Since it's new, I would assume you have time remaining to return for an exchange? If not, SONY can repair it since it is in warranty.

I think I'll have to try another game online, perhaps, before I draw my final conlcusion to as whether it is the servers of those games or just simply the PS3.
But I really dont feel that my ps3 is in need of repair, but I think it is the game servers, is their a way besides port forwarding to solve the server issues of the games...

Connect directly to the modem if you can. You will need to power down the modem for a few minutes, then power it back up with the PS3 connected, then power up the PS3. Make sure your PS3 is set to auto detect IP address, unless your ISP provider gave you an IP address, then you add that in the PS3.
