what can be causing my games to show in a small box in the middle of my screen and the rest of the screen around it be black

Do you have the game running in some kind of compatibility mode? right click the icon and check the compatibility mode and make sure you dont have anything funky set, then check your video drivers and the games video options, sounds like you have it set to run windowed.

i checked the game compatibility its not set for anything right now. but have tried all of the settings but none of them worked. my video driver has been updated. i have nvidia geforce 4 440 it is set as my default monitor my screen res is set for 1600x1200 i have tried other res also but none of them work either my settings box shows that i have 2 monitor screens but when i try to identify them it only show 1 it will not id #2. i had to reload xp obout two weeks ago and this is what happen. i have done all of my updates and downloaded direct x also. thank you for trying to help me this is driving me crazy

What game is it that you are trying to play? The game itself may not support that res and thats why your having a problem.

all of my games are that way i have a lot of games from bigfish and realarchade even the games that came with the computer like freecell show the same way
