Solved: Gaming problem.
Recently, when I installed spore on my ACER it started to go to a grayish/black screen then a screen with a bunch of blue boxes on it. Afterwords it would automatically reset itself. I installed all the new drivers and it constantly does it with a few games. Mainly the Prey, Spore, and sometimes WoW. However whenever I play anything else like TF2 or Crysis they work. Why is it only doing that for a certain amount of games?

I personally just think it is that there is too much dust caked around the fan which causes it to overheat on those certain games, however I do not know for sure. If anyone could help I would appreciate it a lot.

ACER what?? Give the Spec PLease Laptop Or what is it?

What Os Are you running?
Dusty Fans are never good, {when the sun shines through my window onto my tower i can see all sorts of particles going in there through the side fan witch makes me quite over particular about cleaning all my fans and}

I suggest you clean them out, you can do allot of damage with dirty overheating Computer Components.

I also am using the ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series video card if that makes a difference.

Please help someone. It still has not resolved itself after I dusted it.

Ok, well can you be a little more specific? Is there an error code after ''the blue boxes?''

Did this happen before you installed, Spore?

From the time you load the game itself how long does it take for the ''blue Boxes'' to Appear?

To get your system spec go to:
> Start
> Control Panel
> System

System Spec:

Manufacturer: Acer
Model: Aspire T180
Processor: AMD AThlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+ 2.40 GHz
Memory (RAM): 3.00 GB
System type: 32-bit Operating System
Windows Vista - OS

This only started to happen after I installed spore. The weird thing is it only happens on certain games, they are not necessarily the best graphics too.

Games that are fine:
World of Warcraft
Crysis
Team Fortress 2
Warcraft 3
Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne
SNES Emulators
Diablo 1 and 2 + Expansion
Starcraft + Expansion

Games that dont work:
Spore
Garry's Mod
Crysis (Multiplayer)
Counter-Strike: Source
Prey

I updated the drivers and everything I just cant figure out why it is causing this.

Not really, however I found out out something. ANY game I install on the computer automatically restarts the computer non-stop. I just installed Dungeon Keeper 2 and that restarts computer automatically. I install super mario bros 3 and it automatically restarts.

What the hell is causing this? Not enough room? The computer just going down the drains? I can play crysis just fine however when I play a 16/8 bit game it restarts the computer. I am at a loss here.

But we may aswell be doing something;

Install it, update it, Restart your computer and then do a quick scan with it, and post the log Here.

Good luck

Alright I downloaded it, tried running a full system scan and after about an hour and a half of searching it found something. A few minutes later the computer reset itself. I lost the log as well as the thing that was said to be there. I will run a quick scan to see what I can find.

Edit: Here is the log:

Alright I deleted the adware, however it did not help. The computer still crashes. I am beginning to think that either my graphics card is dead/dieing, it is overheating, or not enough power is getting into it.

For overheating what do I do? I am going to buy a new case, the Antec 300 'illusion' only because it is cheaper than paying over 100 bucks for a case. So hopefully that will fix it.

I am thinking of getting the Corsair 850w for a new PSU, however I want something with the same "punch" but cheaper if that makes any sense.

I will send it to a friend and see what he thinks, I hope that a new case would have much better cooling, however I still dont know.

Red face Re : Gaming problem.
I don't know what a Wii is, and I don't recomend buying anything Nintendo (anymore), unless your 12 years old.

I suggest waiting, and if your parents aren't going to buy one for you or contribute to it, save your $50 a week, or $25, at least $20 at week and buy a new system (now or PS3) from a pawn shop.

Most of them guarantee their purchases for a month and is much cheaper than buying one from a store. I bought my PS2 from one last year and it's the best investment I've made.

I wouldn't advice going cheap on the PSU, spending a bit of money to get a quality component can help save you hassle and more money in the long run. Corsair are a good make but 850w may be a bit more than you need.

Have you cleaned the case out recently? Dust buildup will significantly increase heat on components (because it acts as an insulator) so I would suggest giving it a good blast out with canned air, paying particular attention to CPU / GPU fans etc.

If you suspect heat, download and install HWMonitor from here ... http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

Run that and then run one of the games that has problems for a while. If you can stop the game before it actually crashes and have a look at the temps. HWMonitor will show you min, max and current temp for various components. It will also show you PSU outputs so you can see if their are significant fluctuations in any voltages.

Screenshot and post the results if you are unsure.

If you still have your Computer, Download and install Super anti Spyware.

Post the Log, and also Do another Malware Bytes Scan (no need to post the Log just Tell if anything Found) (it shouldn't take that long to Do a Scan)

You Dont need a 850w PSU...., For the Card you have 400 Watt is Minimium. 550w is recommended.

Here is a small comparison:

Corsair 650w VS Corsair 850w
(not a whole lot in the difference)

Depending on what PSU you have Id use any spare computer cash on a new Graphics Card.

For your Card you can Download the specific drivers from HERE

Regards

If you are having possible graphics problems I would suggest downloading the drivers direct from the PC manufacturer site rather than the Graphics Card manufacturer, thats assuming it's still the original installed card. There are possibilities that newer AMD drivers could cause a problem with your specific system, however, if you get the drivers from Acer they should have been tested and certified against your exact setup.

I don't know for sure which country you are in so just go to www.acer.com. The go to Service and Support > Download Drivers and follow the instructions. I would suggest getting all your drivers from there if you are having any problems, it should remove (or at least reduce) the chance of a driver being the issue.
