FSX, Installs then dissapears
Hi everyone,

Ok so i've bought FSX standard edition and my laptop is running Vista 32-bit.

So i've now installed the game 3 times and each time it finishes installing, opens up and starts running I have a quick play on it. However when I exit the game thats it...the files and everything dissapear.

Opening disk 2 doesn't do anything at all except with disk 1, the option to repair/ uninstall comes up.

Any ideas on whats making it do this? the game itself works because i've played it briefly so the only thing I can think of is that I dont have sufficient space?

Thanks

Howdy,

How much space is left on the Hard drive.....how much memory does it have installed on the laptop?

What is the make and model of the laptop...as maybe the video card isn't good enough

Acer 5520g

According to the device manager the video card is NVIDIA GEFORCE 8400M G.

For the hardrive space, I open 'my computer' and I see

ACER (C TOTAL SIZE 111GB - AVAILABLE - 48.6GB
DATA (D TOTAL SIZE 111GB- AVAILABLE- 111GB

2.0gb of RAM

Yeh it's Vista.

I've never had this before, on the rare occasions games wont install they tell you at the beginning, this however, takes the mickey by taking about an hour to install without telling you anything and making you think its gone trouble free and then as soon as you close it...its gone without a trace.

Im going to hazard a guess and say this is MS making a flawed product. Theres a lot on the net about FSX having installation problems- its just working out how to get around them. Could it be 'install shield' thats causing trouble?

The fact that uninstall/repair comes up indicates that the game is actually installed. Check Windows Explorer. Look in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\. That is where the game is installed by default. The actual game is "FS9.exe."

The game icon appears in the 'Games' are (see the Start menu and look for Games on the right hand side). I tend to create a shortcut to the FS9.exe on my desktop. There are no menu items or shortcuts created anywhere else (a bit strange that).
