Major FPS lag playing games.
Hey guys, I'm using Nividia GeForce 9800 GT video card, 500W power supply, 4g ram, and still I have major FPS lag when I play either of my only 2 games Warcraft 3 or World of Warcraft. I've tried to think of everything that might be wrong with my computer but I haven't found anything. I've updated drivers , checked my ram and my ram slots to make sure they were fine, as well as my video card and it's slot. Could anyone please help me out? If I missed out on thing I should mention please let me know. Also, this lag only happens in places where a lot of things happen like raiding, or big bg's(which are just places where 40v40 people fight eachother for those who do not know much about WoW). Thanks for the help guys, really hoping for any replies .

It's probably your processor. What CPU are you using?

There's your problem. For heavy gaming, you'll need a good 3.0GHz dual core or approx a 2.8 Quad. That also means you'll need to upgrade your motherboard and other components as well... so you're probably better off just buying/building a new one.

It depends on what you want. You could probably find an old 3.4GHz Pentium D on eBay for about $50... the MOBO varies, as it depends on what type of CPU you buy.

Is there any way I'd be able to buy a new processor without having to buy a new motherboard? Also, lets say I do end up having to replace all that, any chance it'd all be less than 100 dollars?

Sorry bro, but there's no chance in hell you'll be able to replace the CPU & MOBO under $100 if you want it for heavy gaming purposes. Also, you must take into consideration that you might need to buy new RAM, case, & PSU as well...

Like I said, you're probably better off just building/buying a new one and selling your current components...

No problem, you have a great GPU. I love the 9800GT. Personally I build my rigs with the 8800GTS SLi.

Would buying more RAM make a little bit of the FPS lag go away ? Btw, I have a 32bit OS. And also I think I actually have 2g ram total , I included the ram that my video card has earlier in the thread.

You have 2 or 4 GB installed? Also, what brand is it? Regardless, you'll definitely need to upgrade your 1.8GHz CPU in order to get some good performance in FPS games.

What kind of budget are you on?

Check this out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Pentium-D-...item3a5d5b8f4b

It has plenty of power, and it's probably going to end around $25-$30. It's possible that you won't even need a new MOBO if your current one supports Pentium D. Do you know your MOBO's specific model#?

EDIT: I just checked Newegg, and they're not even selling motherboards that are compatible with Pentium 4 anymore, so you're definitely going to need a new MOBO for whatever CPU you buy. I recommend the Pentium D 940 or 945 as it fits your budget nicely and frankly gives you the best bang for the buck (Intel wise), but what are you leaning toward?

Also, this is a great program that provides details of every single component in your computer:
