So i just picked up starcraft 2 and beat the campaign with no problems on ultra graphic settings, not even a hiccup throughout every mission. only the HD movies slowed down my pc.

However I just tried to play a match online and the game is running unbearably slow. To the point where i can not even issue orders to anyone without taking a good 30 seconds to do so.

I have tried to lower the graphic settings and close all other programs including my firewall and still nothing gives, so i was really hoping someone could help me figure out how to get to the bottom of this...

Here are my specs...

DELL Dimension E510
Pentium 4 processor 3.0Ghz
3GB of DDR2 RAM
HD RADEON 4800 Series GPU
Linksys Modem not hooked up through a router and an ethernet cable to my pc
My internet is a 20Mbit connection but i average about 12 to 15 on speedtest.net


I do run windows firewall along with ESET smart security and UNHACKME monitor
As well as uTorrent and Catalyst Control Center and i have CPU monitor and NETmeter.

Those programs are usually running 100 percent of the time however when i did disable them it made no difference in my performance with Starcraft

I also tried running TCPoptimizer and that also had no effect.

I would really appreciate any help trying to find out what is disrupting my play online because that is one of the main reasons i bought the game to begin with...

Just tried disabling my ethernet connection and enabling my wireless connection, didnt make a difference.

However i just tried installing the game on my wifes laptop and the game ran fine in a multiplayer game over a unsecured wi fi connection, the same one i just tried. so it has to be something to do with my computer itself...

I would say look at your port forwarding on your computer see if the ports for the gaming online are open or if they are closed you should find the settings in your router software and theports should be on blizzards web site look for port forwarding that could cause the lag that you are talking about

I have my compter wired straight to the modem, can you still have problems with ports if you don't have a router?

If so, how would I open them back up?

if that is the case it should be open no router no blocked ports just a live connection so it should work you could call you internet service provider and see if they are blocking ports 8085 and 3724 i belive that is the ports that star craft uses

bad probing there boyd the problem is not the ports... the poster is able to connect, just too slow. Ports are not the problem

Do you have any other multiplayer games that you can try to see if it happens to them also?

The same thing happens! Fps is at 50 in main menu but as soon as i join or create a game it sticks at 1fps and wont budge making it almost impossible to play.

This was in command and conquer kanes wrath.

Skirmish in Starcraft 2 and Command and conquer work fine.

I would start looking at your LAN adapters since that seems to be the one common thing linked (online).

I just saw your location... and then i saw your internet plan... I am in the same area From what you have I assume you have Cox? If so you are lucky, i am too but I get 10MB of my 20MB during the day, 15MB during the night (4AM)... but then i haven't seen any issues with online... i will try it myself... it may be a Cox issue.

What should i look for in the LAN adapters? i updated the drivers already...

And even when i connect through my wireless internet i have the same problem, when the computer right next to mine connects to the same wireless internet with no lag at all...
