Monitor blinks while playing
Hi all, I'm using an ASUS VH196D monitor, and whenever I play games like Company of Heroes, Mass Effect, The Last Remnant, Team Fortress 2 my monitor starts to blink on and off. The power indicator is still "on", but the monitor sometimes just go all black (like it's turned off) for like, half a second, then it goes back to normal.

I'm quite sure it's not my graphics card problem, since such problem doesn't exist when I'm using my old monitor (which is not an Asus model, can't remember the exact name though).

I've also tried searching, but there's no driver/update/... available for my monitor. My monitor is only about 3 months old, I bought it brand new.

I have the latest drivers installed for my NVIDIA graphics card. There's a NVIDIA Control Panel now, but I don't know if it can help solving my problem (never tried messing with the control panel).

Specs:
Windows XP Professional SP3
Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5200 @2.50GHz
3328 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640.0 MB
Current display 1280 x 768 (32-bit) 75Hz

P.S: I created a similar topic several weeks ago, and I thought the problem was solved. Turns out it wasn't. I've also sent a similar message to ASUS online support, but still awaiting their reply. I hope you guys can help.

Try dropping the refresh rate a little, down to around 60hz (common for LCDs) and see if it makes a difference. 75Hz is right at the limit of that screens capability and could be causing a problem.

Try running it at 1400x900 resolution also, that is the native resolution for that screen, again, see if it makes any difference.

If the above 2 don't change anything and as you have tested another monitor on the PC (without changing any settings hopefully) and that works perfectly fine then the problem is with the Asus monitor itself. If it is only 3 months old I would be tempted to return it to where you got it from and explain the situation, ensure you tell them you have tested with another monitor which works perfectly.

Yeah, the only setting I've changed while switching monitors is the resolution (from 1024 x 768 to 1280 x 768). I guess I'll send the monitor back to the Asus guys.

Also, after switching monitors, I've found that there's TONS of scan lines. Tons of them. I've never noticed a single one while using my old monitor.

I would definately consider the monitor itself to be a problem based on what you have said, the key point being you don't have any of the problems with the old monitor on the same machine.
